tmcorbin's 1st Gen 4runner rear bumper build

Been working on a rear bumper for my runner for about 2 weeks. I had an idea about what I wanted that kind of changed a little as I started putting fire to steel.

Not much rock crawling around here, and I doubt this runner will ever see much of that so I was not worried about approach angles much. But I still wanted it tight to the body but still leagle.

I also wanted side protection that I could build off for wheel well protection down to the future sliders.

I wanted the bumper to be out to the rear far enough so that it could be used as a step, and or later add a swing out carrier of some sort.

So here goes some pics

I dont think the pictures do it justice. And I know I am going to get beat up for the D rings. But I like them, I think they look cool.

And yes, the side protection is tied into the frame, I just did not get a good picture of it. But you can see it in one of the pictures. I decided to use 4Crawlers type of frame mounts.

Looks good, nice and simple. I also like how you put the part of the fender flare into it. Good touch.

Bumper looks great. Did you do it all yourself? Where in NC are you?

thanks for all he input. Been a while since I checked this thread.

I am in eastern NC Havelock.

Bumper is all bolt up including the side mounts seems to be holding up nice. I have pulled a little with it and it has not budged any. I still need to wire he trailer lights. And I did not top coat the POR 15. So it has started to dull on the side exposed to he sun.

Kiyo if u were closer u could stop by and we would build u one.

If I was going to build another one I would do it with 3/16". 1/4" is just a bit heavier than needed.

Glad u all like it. Need to find time to do the front now.

very clean work, i like the low-profile bumpers. i think i was attempting something like yours when i built my rear but i'm not as talented with fab work.

I sold that bumper it was just way to heavy. And I built a tube bumper for the rear. Getting ready to start on my font bumper soon.

Thanks
