Questions and opinions on front bumper construction
I am planning on building a bumper for my sequoia. I have been all over the forum and looked at all different types. I think I may go ahead and build a "tube style bumper" although I like the looks of an ARB style bumper.
Here is where the question lies. Would it be totaly stupid to build the bumper out of 1 1/2" (1 7/8" OD) sch 40 aluminum pipe? I know it would be more durable to build it out of steel, but I have a ton of 1 1/2" aluminum pipe kicking around. I am not looking to use it to mount a winch on or to mow down trees. I am just looking to gain some ground clearance over the stock bumper. I have already ripped it off once. Besides the stock bumper really isn't that ballsy anyhow. Just looking for some input here. I could always get some steel, but I already have the aluminum. Not to mention I don't have my mig welder set up yet and I haven't tried to weld steel with my tig. Any suggestions? Thanks. |
For what it will cost you in aluminum plate to add to your aluminum pipe you could build 3 steel bumpers I bet.
