You priced steel lately?
Do you have a bender? Welder? The premade bumpers are a pretty good deal actually ... the only reason to do custom is if you want something very specific and different. |

Marlin's Bumper is really strong too. I've seen them take a brusing. It's not easy to make a easy to install bumper that's strong and good looking too. |
Most guys I know that make stuff say that it is hard for them to make one for the cost of the Marlin bumper:
TOols, Jigs, time = a few bucks too...There is actually a lot of work that goes into a Marlin Bumper, and he has Economies of Scale on his side (volume) that helps him keep the price down...either way good luck this: http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...pzone/0012.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...zone/002-1.jpg has since become this: http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...zone/006-3.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...zone/007-2.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...zone/005-2.jpg |
I'm planning on fabbing a rear bumper myself. It will feature a swing away tire carrier, a hi-lift jack mount and maybe a jerry can holder. I've looked at several aftermarket pre-made bumpers and they cost an arm and a leg. Steel has gone up in price, but I'll save up on labor and the satisfaction of building it myself is worth everything in the end.

Lol, you'll save on labor, but the cost of buying just a little bit of steel right now is going to far outweigh the labor savings. You could do like ocdropzone did (bought?)! But you can't put a price on satisfaction of doing it yourself. Plus you'll be the only one that has it! Good luck if you go that route, make sure to do a build thread! |

Oh and my spare is a 33x9.50x15 on a 15x7 rim in case anyone was wondering.. I provided the Rockstomper hinge kit: http://rockstomper.com/catalog/pieces/hinge.htm ***I have since found this style is not the way to go due to several failures.: http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums...hreadid=538906) Derek worked with what I gave him. He will be redoing the rear hinge to a double shear design (much more secure) after the first of the year when he does my internal roll cage. I found some of this stuff after I had Derek do his work that would have probably been more secure than the rockstomper design EMS off road has an awesome and complete kit ($100): http://emsoffroad.com/shop/index.php...ndex&cPath=122 Iron Pig Off Road has some cool and reasonably priced stuff: http://www.ironpigoffroad.com/fab/diy.shtml their mount for the DIY is awesome with the integrated high lift mount: http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...tire-mount.jpg |
ya i got a bender and welder but just wanted to know little more about the marlin one...
