How to make the "rollbar" in a 1stgen runner stronger?
I havent yet built the rollcage in my 88runner. But before i do build it, what can I do to make the original rollbar stronger. Could i weld it to the frame somehow. ALso, where it is bolted to the body, could i weld it there to make it stronger? I really dont know, and i figured you all could help me out.

The best way would probably just get rid of it and bend a new tube and weld that to the frame. It was more for aesthetics than anything I would put my fate in that bar.

If you wanted to add some strength until you rebuild, make four backing plates for the stock bar. Drill out the factory mounting holes and rebolt w/grade 8 hardware through body and into new backing plates. At least the mounting points will be stronger and you can use them for your next cage.

You could also weld in a cross brace from the top corner of the drivers side to the bottom corner of the passenger side. This will, of course, make getting into the rear of the vehicle from the front more difficult.
