Finished my cage
Well I got the front part of the cage put together last fall but it started raining and my bender is outside so the rest got put on hold for the winter.
Well, the weather finally turned so I got the bender and notcher out and finished up the rear part around the bed. I hear triangles and trapezoids are good? http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...e/P5110093.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...e/P5110096.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...e/P5110094.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...e/P5110095.jpg I tried to keep it as close to the body as I could and still have a small gap: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...e/P5110097.jpg And no the license plate isn't permanently there. I just had to throw it on to drive the truck to where my bender is. I just haven't figured out where to put it yet. It's taller than the bumper so if I put it high enough to not hang below the bumper it hits the tailgate when open and if I put it even with the top of the bumper it hangs below and gets bent to hell when I drag the bumper. |
looks nice

Quite awsome. Build me one? :D
EDIT: I love the Duct tape License plate holder! |
looks good, i defiantly like the bar over the cowl, makes it look really beefy

|
Looks awesome.....wanna build me one too?
|
Thanks for all the compliments. I can't wait to go out and scratch up all that shiny silver paint:D
Both of you guys are on the wrong side of the country or I'd be glad to build one. I have some local folks talking to me about building cages. |
Lol........just wishful thinking
|
so you're closer to california then? i'll be home waiting all week!!!
looks real good man. i dig the giant triangle over the bed. |
I am still wondering how you painted it.
As it didn't look "tacked" on. I liked the booty fab license plate too. :hillbill: :guitar: |
well if he thinks like i do......it would have been cardboard between body and cage. someone holds it someone paints it. teamwork is the key to my ghetto-rigging!
|
Ding, ding, ding. I put a house painting drop cloth (plastic sheet) between the body and the cage. I can almost cover the entire truck with the one I had. Then I just go hog wild on that section of cage. Rinse and repeat. It aint as nice as painting it off the rig which I will probably do next time. I had no way of getting the front section off anyway so I knew I was going to be painting on the rig so when I built the rear I just welded it up.

Looks pretty strong, nice job.

Then I bought some tube, read an article on pirate and started bending. It's been a little bit of trial and error. I did take a few years of metal shop in high school and am pretty comfortable with welding and cutting and all that. Bending and notching are a whole new beast to learn though. And all my work is eyeball stuff. I don't have bend-tech. I want to get it some day but it was like get bend-tech or 100' of tube....hmmmmmm. Tube it is!:bigok: |
