87 4Runner Rear Cargo Area

this is my design of what i might possiblly be doing, this was inspired by a few differnet people.

the drawers are in the bottom obviously. lol and the round circles are my subs and the middle square is my amp... oh and the four tubes sticking up are the roll bar thats there. just a basic rough design. im not to talented with it yet...what do you guys think? and opinions? things i should add? take out? etc. any input would be great.

im going to do a wood frame maybe some steel square tubing. and fiberglass everything for the outer shell.

When I did my sleeping platform/rear storage I skipped the drawers completely so I wouldn't lose what little vertical space there is back there - to each their own though, drawers do make accessing whatever you have easier.

What are you planning on putting in the drawers? If you haven't already, measure anything and everything you may everb want to put in them and make sure everything will fit.

You need to redo the drawing, 4runner roll bar front legs mount on top of the wheel well, if you make it so the unit fits between the wheel well you won't need to mess with the bar.
Doing this in my phOne so image is small, maybe you have taking the wheel wells into account

id definately consider some protection over the subs and the amp. you may not plan on putting anything in the back that could damage those, but remember its a cargo area. I would also combine both the drawers into one. You dont have much width as it is. But its all about what you are going to put in there. On the FD i worked for we had a brush truck that had this same concept in the bed of the truck for rescue equipment. It was one big drawer and the cover was a mesh load bearing metal so you could see what was in there. It came out on rollers and had a stacked top too. You could also take it out which was the big plus. I found a link thats pretty close to it below. You planning on taking out the carpets or the rear seat?

for bomb proof drawer slides, you can put together something like this

just sealed bearings on the sides with square tube fastened to the side of the drawer

How high do you want to make this. I built one for the back of my 2nd gen but only made it approx 7.5in high.
