My Solid Axe Swap
We managed to get everything completed in one day... :D
I have to give big props to AJ at Bent Up in Sac. Had it not been for his knowledge, skills and ability to get into contact with people for last minute emergency parts the truck would still be torn apart. Most of the swap itself went smooth. Hit a hiccup when we realized that we needed spacers for the steering arms. I have to give it to Parts Mike for lending his availability on Sat after hours so we could pick up the part. Had it not been for AJ getting a hold of Mike and Mike being available we would have never finished, at best it would be the next day on stock low steer knuckles. Then we had another issue with a rather large machining defect in the right side caliper. AJ managed to shave off enough of the surface so the brake line would seat properly to the caliper. In addition, he was able to fabricate some small things I needed and also my shock hoops. Also, thanks to his neighbor a few shops over, Dan at Ruff Stuff, we were able to pick up a set of spacers for the rear shackels. It ended up being all the little stuff that would of ed us, had the swap been done elsewhere. I can't thank AJ at Bent Up enough for getting everything up and running in one full day! So the swap is done, the truck is up and running and now its just the little stuff to take care of and further tweeking after some trail runs! All of the pics are here: SAS at Bent Up Before: http://www.sn4wd.com/albums/album422/aah.sized.jpg After: http://www.sn4wd.com/albums/album422/agb.sized.jpg Here is my parts list for my D44 leaf sprung swap: D44 AXLE BUILD UP:
SWAP PARTS:
STEERING COMPONENTS:
MISC/OTHER PARTS:
TOTAL: $7,798.90 The rear end suspension was completed well before the swap using 63" Chevys with an AAL, Bilsteins, Ruff Stuff shocks relocation components and modifying the shackles from the Toyota leafs. There are still some things that need to be completed after the shakedown run. And some of the little things are not listed, but then again those are parts specific to your swap. COMPANIES I RECOMMEND DOING BUSINESS WITH:

Yea... nice 37s with no more chrome wheels :hillbill: http://a634.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...28938112e9.jpg http://a894.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...448d45df0d.jpg Took the rig out on its first real run to truly put all the fabrication to the test. I couldn't of been happier abusing my junk. Everything held together, broke nothing and running 37s is truly cheating on the Rubicon! Again big props to Bent Up, my future ex husband and all of my truly obnoxious friends! :D http://a180.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...5d93a6c963.jpg http://a395.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...b350d22a52.jpg http://a363.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...023a735822.jpg http://a765.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...4a8a2c1f54.jpg http://a593.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...a6575701c0.jpg http://a399.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...a58bb390d6.jpg Please abide by the administration's rules and DO NOT post in this thread |
