Yes and no. It works well for crawling but it can be a PITA finding the right gear for trailing that is too much for high and too little for low. I will do duals when $$ allows. If you are formulating a build plan I would try to add duals right off the bat if at all possible so you don't have to re-work the driveshafts twice.

"If 5th runs out, go back to 1st in High."
This is exactly my point. On a basic, easy-ish trail, I have to shift between hi and lo all the time.
Here are the crawl numbers for the gears.
3.95 x 4.7 x 5.29 = 98.20
2.14 x 4.7 x 5.29 = 53.20
1.38 x 4.7 x 5.29 = 34.31
1.00 x 4.7 x 5.29 = 24.86
0.85 x 4.7 x 5.29 = 23.57
3.95 x 2.28 x 5.29 = 47.64
2.14 x 2.28 x 5.29 = 25.81
1.38 x 2.28 x 5.29 = 16.64
1.00 x 2.28 x 5.29 = 12.06
0.85 x 2.28 x 5.29 = 10.25
3.95 x 1 x 5.29 = 20.89
2.14 x 1 x 5.29 = 11.32
1.38 x 1 x 5.29 = 7.30
1.00 x 1 x 5.29 = 5.29
0.85 x 1 x 5.29 = 4.49
There are a lot of times I would like to drive around at 12-16 like the 2.28 in 3rd or 4th gear, a ratio that is simply not available in 4.7, but is similar to 4hi in 2nd gear. Most of the stuff I've encountered has been handled easily by 2nd or 3rd gear with the 4.7, so it would also be handled by 1st gear with the 2.28.
My point is that many trails I've encountered that aren't "rockcrawls" but are steep/loose and have a tricky spot here or there could be driven all day in 2.28, but with the 4.7, I'm constantly back and forth between hi and lo. It's not the end of the world and when we go do hard stuff, I'm really glad to have the 4.7. It just gets old doing the --- stop, put in 4lo, go, stop put in 4hi, go.......stop, put in 4 lo, go, stop, etc. So, if I had the dough, duals would be nice, but for now I don't have the dough. So I'll shift. Alot.

If it's any consolation, I made the ExPo guys come over here to read the last trip report...

I'm afraid that I can't recommend any fab shops other than Sonoran Steel. Steve has done all the stuff that I couldn't on my truck. You would have to check with him on what he would be willing to take on as a project. He does very well on products that he makes frequently and big projects like swaps and cages are really not cost effective for him and cut into his time for what is really his bread and butter. In my case I was able to be flexible and let him work on my truck in between busy times so I did not have solid finish date, but I understood that going in and was fine with it. I also did some of the work myself.
Since you are a self professed "newb" consider starting a thread about yourself and what you want to do with your rig. I bet plenty of knowledgeable folks here would be willing to give advice as to how to proceed. Good luck.

Thanks. Not much new. Went on this trip at the end of April and then shut down for the hot weather.

Of course then May was quite pleasant but I had a tweaked front DS and I figured I would call it a season and do some PM and upgrades during the hot weather. Of course I have procrastinated and done nothing but...
