Jardine Products and Customer Service

About 2 1/2 years ago, I purchased a Jardine Cat-Back system (Part #89215) for my 4Runner. It is the model for the 3rd Gen 3.4L engine with a single catalytic converter. I have always been extremely pleased with it's performance and head-turning exhaust note. I paid $204.95 shipped from Performance Products. It was a great deal. I would highly recommend the system to any 3rd Gen 4Runner owner.

On a recent trip to California, I noticed it had gotten a bit louder and kinda drone-y. I stuck my head under the truck when we reached our destination to find that the muffler had a couple of holes in it. I was a bit surprised and somewhat dismayed. But, the system came with a limited lifetime warranty, so I wasn't too worried. I made a mental note to contact Jardine when I returned home from our trip.

Once home, and before calling Jardine, I went to a local exhaust specialist whom I trust to have him inspect the muffler and get his professional opinion. I wanted to make sure that this failure was indeed a product defect and not something I had caused. He confirmed that the muffler had rotted out from the inside. He also told me that the muffler itself had been manufactured by Magnaflow. So, armed with this knowledge, I went home to call Jardine...

I called and spoke with Randy, who handles warranty claims for their automotive products. I told him what had happened and he confirmed that the older versions of their systems were indeed made by Magnaflow. He said that the only problems they had with their products were these systems. The new systems are made in-house and do not have these problems. He told me he would send me a new system and that all I had to do was pay for shipping which was $30. He didn't even ask for proof of purchase or proof of failure.

I was cool with that. :)

It's really nice to be taken at your word in this day and age. Anyone remember what that is like? It's too far and few between these days.

So, I just wanted to share with you that Jardine stands behind their products and takes care of their customers. I'm really looking forward to getting my new system and installing it.

Peace.

Great to hear G. I have been eyeing these systems for a while now...:)

I wanted to post an update since my bank statement is now updated as well. The shipping charge only came out to $27.23. The new system should be here early next week.

Peace.

So, the new system arrived on Monday and I installed it this morning. It was harder to get the old one off than it was to get the new one on. ;)

Anyway, it was uneventful and I'm glad to have the exhaust sounding like it's supposed to again.

Peace.

are you still running the stock Cat with this system?

Dr. Zhivago 09-11-2004 12:44 PM

Yes, I am. I should mention one this about this exhaust system: The gasket they supply doesn't do a good job of sealing the connection between the head pipe and catalytic converter. You need to get a different gasket from Fel-Pro that fits. The Fel-Pro part # is: 60309

This is for Ford 4, 6 and V8's from 75-83. It is a perfect fit for our application.

The reason you need this gasket is because the stock exhaust extends a bit into the cat and the Jardine just sits flush against it. The opening of the cat is a bit indented and you need the Fel-Pro gasket to fill in the gap. It has a raised area that fills this gap perfectly and completely seals the system. It is also the correct diameter.

Hope this helps.

I hate to ressurect an old thread, but I have this system on my 95.5 Taco Single Cab V6 5 Speed, and it has been on there since 2001, eight years.. And its only got a small hairline crack in the muffler where the pipe enters it, I ground it down and ran a bead of weld along it, and no more problems.. its a loud, throaty, and deep system it sounds great. And its a great bargain! :readit:
