Snorkel for 1985 P/U

i searched and havent found anything.....

i would like to get a premade bolt on snorkel for my truck... its an 85 pickup 4x2... however, all the stuff i see is for a truck with an airbox and EFI

does anyone make a snorkel for the CARBED 22R? i need one..... also if not... has anyone got a writeup to a homemade one?

ok, guess its about time to bump up this thread ;)

I was able to use the snorkel kit made for EFI's when my truck was still carbed. Unfortunately I never took pics. :P

just looked in your photo album and found some pics..... what snorkel kit did you use? it looks liek the arb one... where did you get it and how much was it? i dont care if it looks good, just want it to be functional.... also i am poor, but if it menas spending the dough for a proper snorkel, i will, i lost an engine befroe due to sucking in water... im not going to let that happen again....

Yup, it's the ARB one. Got it from Central 4WD and IIRC, it was around $260. I'm not sure if it'll bolt right on though since 2WD and 4WD fenders are different. There are cheaper homemade snorkel articles out there. Just do a search on the Pirate, 4x4wire and ORC Toy boards. :bigok:

would switching my fenders to 4x4 fenders be a bolt on ordeal? i think the 4x4s are wider and i need a bit more width, probably can get them a lot cheaper than fiberglass as well

Arnold 08-03-2004 07:25 PM

I honestly don't know if they'll bolt right in. :)

Why don't you go for a home grown one?

actually i saw that link earlier whne i was looking i dont see where a snorkel attaches or gets its air form the outside world... also i have a carbed setup... probably wouldnt be too much different thoguh

I know nothing about carbs so I wasn't sure if this would help you. I figured if I were going to do this I'd rather use PVC piping instead of buying a kit.

I'm sure Bruce will speak up about his setup pretty soon - it's definitely a less than obvious mod on his rig :bigok:

YES, all the sheet metal, glass, grills, bumpers, lights, interior, etc. are interchangeable between 2WD & 4WD's of the same body style.

The 4WD fenders just have a flare molded in for wider tires.

Why wouldn't you just connect your snorkel to your carb's air cleaner? Or am I forgetting something? I'm also interested in this and that's what I had planned to do.

4x4spaz 08-16-2006 11:38 PM

Uh oh... :bump:

Air cleaner for the carb is already pretty damn high - how deep you planning on going?

I still have problems with water and mud getting up in there. Plus I like the idea of "cold air intake" if it'll even work.

Go custom as I did hehehe

Sorry for the pics, the firsts I've found.
