Making long travel kit, vertical uniballs, or ball joints?
Hey everybody, I'm in the proccess of turning my 89 2WD pickup into a prerunner, and am currently building the LT kit.
The kit is going to be 6-8" wide (unsure yet), and I have a question about the stock balljoints. I've heard the stock lower ball joint will yield more articulation than an average 1" uniball.
If that's so, I was going to run the lower stock balljoint, then for the upper control arm I was going to use a vertical uniball and see how it cycled.
I want to get more than 20" out of this thing, but I'm not sure if the lower ball joint will allow it, or if I should just do something else (ie dual vertical uniballs).
Can anyone help me out?

Lower ball joint definitely doesn't have as many degrees of misalignment as a quality 1 inch uniball.
I wouldn't want to go over 85 inches wide on a Toyota body, so depending on your tire, wheel and spindle choice that can help you figure out how much wider you can go with your arms. After a certain point it really doesn't help to go wider or more travel, it can hamper your steering and bump travel is much more important than droop. You can only bump so far before you're laying frame on the ground and the more droop you have the more power you need to use it. Just some food for thought.

Why do you say not to go over 85 inches? I'm not entuely sure on what the stock width is now, so how much wider is that compared to stock? And I'm still clueless on how much travel I can pull with a horizontal uniball, as I might run just a vertical uniball on the upper.
I'm also in the proccess of cutting out the core supports, fenderwells, and Rad supports to make room for all that so I can get shock hoops/engine cage, and fit a one piece clip on there, then I should have almost unlimited space, and its just up to the arms to do their work.
Only thing I'm having problems with is where to mount the ignitor and the fuse box, I'm probably going to have to mount them on some structural support, but I would like to know what other people have done.
Does anyone have pics of their shock hoop/cage setup?

Hey sorry it's been a few years, I actually didn't get to finish this project, I ended up parting it out after I started mocking up the kit for it.
But, just about 3 weeks ago, I bought another 89 Toyota Pickup 2wd with a fully built LC Engineering 22re, and a total chaos ball joint kit on it.
Now the TC kit is nice, but it's definitely not enough, and will be building a kit for it soon.
In the last year or so, I've gone to school for metal fabrication, and suspension and chassis design, so this truck should be something pretty wild.
