Lift?

What's the best lift for a 3rd gen 4runner?

Sorry, I couldn't resist getting in a dig, since this forum is intended to avoid all the newbie lift questions.

I'd have to say stacking hockey pucks for a custom body lift would be your best bet.

Tires, Rims and Lights

I need new tires so what is the largest tire I could put on my rig? (Dang I wish I could do some polls here! )

I need new rims so what backspacing do I need?

I need some off road lights so what kind work best?

Did I mention that I want to buy all this for less than $100 and have someone else install it for free?

:D

Damnit, who let the newbies in here? ;)

Chemist:

2x4 blocks made from wall studs work well for body lifts, and make excelent lift blocks. You can save a little extra cash on this lift by using the battery out of your rig to weld some grade 2 (galvanized) bolts to the ends of your existing U bolts for the extra length.

Toyo:

The so called "deck plate mod" is when you cut a hole in your deck (directly over the your septic tank's access port), and cover it with a dinner plate. The benefit is that it gives you easy access to have your septic pumped (which is why the hole is cut directly above the septic tank access port)

wabbit:

You didn't mention what type of rig you have... I can only assume a 4Runner or Taco, since they are the best vehicles in the world.

Believe it or not, the best tires in the whole world are those wheel-barrow wheels you see at Ace, Lowes or Home Depot. Those things are rated for 1,000,000 ton towing capacity, are the only truely NHRA approved tires, and get killer grip in the mud and rocks.

You're kind of limited in options on back spacing... IIRC, 4Runners require 7" positive offset rims only. You can get away with 3" offset, but only if you run a 4" spacer.

I've found flashlights taped to the leaf springs make great off road lights. Be sure the flash lights use 6 volt batteries, so you don't have to change them as often.

As for getting all of this for less than $100, most of these items can be picked up at Ace, Lowes or Home Depot... Any local tire/suspension shop worth their weight should be more than willing to do the installs for free.

Gotta' run... I've got some studs to rip out of the walls in my garage to give my Cruiser a total of 10" of lift (2x4 blocks all the way, baby!)

<real newbie disclaimer>
If you believe an ounce of this, you need to go ask all of these questions at http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum. Don't even bother with searching. The guys at Pirate dispise it when newbies use the search function...

:chairfall So I'm a little sarcastic at nearly 1am, after working on a SAS all day hahaha

What's the best lift for a 3rd gen 4runner?
Chemist, Im in the same phase as you are. I just bought my 96 2nd gen 4Runner a few months ago and want to get that agressive look. But my Dad wont let me do anything drastic. Im thinking of going with a Brown body lift, but I dont know how much. 1'' or 2''? Do you get the Performance Products magazine? There are some lift ideas in there.

Do you have any pictures of this kind of setup? I ask because Im looking for something cheap, but effective. Did you do it, or did you pay someone to do it? How much did it cost? Im just a poor college student and cant afford much right now.

OK, that's enough :mrt:

People, THIS THREAD WAS A JOKE!!! Do NOT do any of the half-assed mods mentioned like 2x4 body lifts, etc. I'm locking this thread before any more newbies get the wrong idea and do something stupid.
