hidden snorkel PICTURES?

Hey everyone.

I have been reading lots about hidden snorkels on 2nd gen 4runners. There was several threads that covered this topic, some of which dated back to 2004. One thing each thread had in common was almost all of the pictures are no longer working.

I would really like to see how some of you did your hidden snorkels!!

Help a brotha out!

:)

You cant see mine because its hidden!

Its just a 2" shop vac hose, goes from the air box, out under the fender then back in the engine bay in the red circle. Theres a screen over that end to keep larger stuff out. No noticeable power loss, but a 3" hose would probably be better.

Check to see if you can find 4crawlers hidden snorkel on his 85 4runner. The same concept would apply to your truck

@ rattle wagon, I like the idea. Do you ever have problems with taking water in?
@ drop zone, I will check this out as soon as I can. Thanks!
@ big blue, take a picture! :)

Not yet, But I dont really go looking for deep water. It only picks the intake up about 4", but I dont have to worry about water splashing up in the front.

Heres one with PVC, Sort of like mine but not sucking from the engine bay

could you show some pics of how you attached the snorkel to the airbox? Would a pvc male connector work? Maybe just drill a hole the right size, put the connector on with a lockring and glue/ silicone the shop vac hose in? Also, i was wondering if there might be a way to have an alternative way to draw air out from the stock location, and when you go wheeling block that off and draw directly from the snorkel? Only reason im asking is cause i was looking at some property the other day and the only way to get in was to go through a mudhole where the water came up to the middle of the tailgate (i have a 3'' BL). It made it through, but i dont want to take any chances of hydrolocking it in the future. Thanks

Sure, ill get some pics next weekend. I just siliconed the hose into the inlet tube of the airbox. When Im not using it (most time) I just unplug it.

why do you guys all talk about unplugging your snorkel?
surely a smooth snorkel would still allow the same airflow as the restricted intake behind the headlight?

You might want to consider filling the mudhole in lol

Sure would, but mines just a shopvac hose, its not smooth at all. But back when the truck was a DD, I had done several highway trips with it plugged in and didnt notice any difference.

My snorkel is hidden because if I had one like that ^ a tree would rip it off first day out.

Plus, when are you ever REALLY in water that deep.

My snorkel is mostly to feed good air to the SC. But somehow I manage to find some body of water to cross every Sunday.

I Need to find a way to relocate my intake also, got fiberglass. Has anyone made a snorkel that comes out of the hood? I was thinking of turning my air box so the intake faces backwards and then have a tube that connects to a snorkel just barely peeking out of the hood. I like your setup big blue!
