detroit lockers

does a 1gen 4runners traction on snow and slippery conditions get drastically worse with detroit lockers. I plan on going skiing and dont want any problems. If there is a loss in traction then i may plan on taking them out. Is this hard to do at home?

they might engage while you are making a turn this would make you fishtail.

I had a detroit in my Jeep and it got really bad in the snow. In 4wd it would be fine. I had the detroit in the rear and open in the front.

So what I'd do is engage 4wd in the snow even if I could get around without it normally.

I never much liked my rear Detroit on slippery snow and ice. Rear end would always head to the low side of the road, tricky to get started on a 4-lane road with the crown of the road and traffic to the right side. For those conditions, either a manual locker (e-locker or ARB) is the way to go. I leave my ARBs unlocked almost all the time in snow, only locking them when needed. Or get a limited slip like the TrueTrac, I loved the one I had in the front axle:
