Custom Rear Recovery Point
With SE4RJ4 only a couple days away and me still not having a rear bumper (which meant not rear recovery point), my dad and i got creative. I went to a junkyard today and found all the toyota 4x4s i could find and took the front hook off them. I only found 3, but for $20 bucks i got all 3 and the hardware. So we drilled holes in the very bottom of the back of the frame and took a piece plate steel, cut it with the plasma cutter and made a spacer for them. I used the bolts that came with the hooks. These will stay on untill we get steel to make a custom rear bumper.
I'll shut up now. Let me know what yall think pelase. Thanks for looking!!! http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i2...r/100_2116.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i2...r/100_2117.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i2...r/100_2118.jpg |
I'd put a plate on the top too to 'sandwinch' the frame and distrubte the forces more.

Thats should do, and have fun.

Theres nothing easier to reach for when its underwater than those hooks. I know that from experience of hanging over my hood with my friend holding my ankle while I'm ready to go head first into 3 feet of disgusting muddy water.

Be careful not to yank on them too hard so you dont tweak the end of your frame where it's not boxed.
|
It's a nice thought but doesn't look very safe. Definitely put another (longer) plate on top.

I Hate HOOKS..... Very Very Unsafe.
I would box the end of the frame in and Weld/Bolt a D-Ring in its place. Sure you have to spend a couple extra seconds attaching the Shackle or looping the tow strap threw. However How are you going to attached the hook from a winch onto that hook ? 10,000 LBS D-RING http://www.piercewrecker.com/162%20d...0w-bracket.gif |
FYI: Tow hooks are NOT considered recovery points. :hillbill:
If you get stuck at SE4RJ4 we'll just attach to your AXLE. :guitar: |
Be careful on the non-boxed frame like someone said. I wouldn't have someone yank on it super hard but should work for mild recovery until you get your rear bumper.
