Arb compressor question
 

anyone who has the arb compressor know of it to leak oil? i think mine is leaking slightly. anyone know what im talking about by chance?

I don't think there is any oil in the compressor. Someone on here was talking about oil leaking from the solenoid. Possibly oil from the diff.

It shouldn't be leaking oil from the compressor since it doesn't have any. If oil is coming out of the solenoid, it's a symptom that your diff breather is clogged or you have an air leak in your lines inside the diff. Majority of them though are caused by clogged diff breather. Have you done the diff breather mod yet? You might want to check your diff breather.

i have indeed done the breather mod. ill check to see if its clogged regardless.

i think im gonna need to get a new compressor now, or fix something though, cause a gasket on the compressor is letting out air..perhaps that repair kit is in order?

Try calling Tim Lund of ARB in Seattle. ARB have one of the best customer service. He's been a great help to me when I had a problem on the o-ring during my installation.

Where on the compressor is the air leaking out of?

I can second that ARB has the best customer service. My compressor died (a dead short in the motor) I sent it there and had a new unit by weeks end. It's possible they can fix the air leak under warranty.

IIRC, there's an o-ring under there. Probably just needs replacing.

Maybe the bolt on the other end needs to be tightend. It's always something simple.

I'll second that comment - depending on how long you have had the compressor installed and how many "rough" trails you've been on - you'll find that you may have to re-tighten that bolt a couple times a year. After the second year it's always a good idea to take the can off and give the lip a good cleaning. Put a little lubricant on the O-ring and tighten it down - should hold for at least 6 months under hard use (off-road & driving on washboard roads) - a lot longer with mild use. I use Super Lube with Teflon for my O-ring lubricant. The oil is gear lube. The 7.5" front differential on Toyota's will build up a little pressure and force gear lube up the airline ever with an open breather. You really have to work the front locker to get this reaction but when the solenoid fails, just take it apart and wipe off all the lube, reassemble and you are good to go. Takes 10 minutes tops and doesn't happen very often.

I forgot to add this, just in case someone doesn't know. Use warm water with dish soap, paint in on the can and solenoids with the compressor powered up and where ever you see bubbles - you've got a leak. It's either going to be at the fittings, which means you either have to tighten them or take them off, re-Teflon tape the threads and tighten them back on or at the can lip which has been covered. If you have no leaks there but the compressor keeps going off & on at regular intervals - it's going to be in the line (very unlikely) or at the housing. In all my years running ARB's, I've only experienced leaks with the can and solenoid fittings.
