I think if it were the real McQuay and not that stupid 555 rebrand imposter he woulda been fine. I woulda taken it back and told them to give me a real one.

Sort of a hijack but I swear I've looked elsewear....
So the FJ80 (does it matter FJ80 or FZJ80?) TRE's are stronger and are a 'bolt in' upgrade for a IFS TRE correct? So how are they stronger if both ends are basically the same? I tried searching for images and differences with no luck. Only people saying they are better. I redid my TRE's while home on R&R (had my wife get the parts so they'd be waiting on me) and I did notice that (this is if I remember correctly, I also did the LBJ) the TRE's were a little bigger that the ones I took off. Is this what a FJ80 TRE would look like? Same thread and everything else with just a slightly bigger 'ball' end on it?

No. The ball end is not the weak part of the stock TRE. The threaded ends are what bend and cause issues.

The FJ80 TRE has a MUCH thicker, just shy of of an inch, threaded section.

The balls are the same, but almost never fail. With large tires, hydro assist, etc... they can fail, and fluke's certainly happen.

And no, they are NOT a bolt in upgrade. You will need to adapt things to make them work. One way is to run a heim joint at the centerlink, as shown earlier in this thread. The other is detailed in my build thread in my sig.

Thanks IKE.
I did some reading last night (didn't read all of your morph though) and saw where the FJ80 ends were talked about a lot but not what had to be done to run them. So obviously we are talking about a new 'clamp' center section for the TRE's and will you also need to ream out the knuckle ends then too? Like I said, I couldn't find any pics comparing FJ80 to IFS TRE's. I did find a pic comparing FJ80 to GM 1 ton TRE's.....There's quite a difference there.

I kinda feel bad cus I said that thing would work for him, but was not expecting him to get a 555 in the McQuay box.
