'84 Pickup Rear Suspension Travel and Shock Questions
Hi All,
I'm almost finished with the suspension upgrades for my truck, the last thing to figure out is the shocks and whether I have enough bump travel in the rear. I'm running beefy extended bump stops and at my current ride height with brand new OME springs have about 4.5" between the top of the bump stop and frame bracket: (This picture for reference) http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...psckdii6j6.jpg When the bump stop contacts the frame bracket I have right about 18" distance center to center between the shock mounting studs. The Rancho RS999143 has a compressed length of 16.05". I would think that should be fine as it's very unlikely I'd compress that bump stop almost 2" under any kind of normal circumstances, right? So the two questions I have: 1) Is ~4.5" bump travel enough that I won't be bouncing off the bump stops all the time in normal driving? 2) Is 2" enough clearance between when the bump stop contacts the frame and the shock bottoms out? Those shocks will also give me about 2.5" of droop beyond my current ride height. I'd think that should be enough...??? Consider also that these springs will settle a little with some driving, so the bump travel will get smaller while droop travel will get longer. Does this seem okay? Thanks for any input! |
