3rd Gen Bumper Decision time...
Well, after doing some research on the Tundra, I'm keeping the runner.
So, I need to make a decision on a front bumper... here goes: #1 - All Pro Off Road $599 (pickup) + $150 powdercoating http://allprooffroad.com/images/stor...ont Bumper.jpg #2 - TJM17 - $429 + $150 (bobbed wings) + $200 BL brackets + Ship http://www.sonoransteel.com/Glamis_002.jpg #3 - DeMello winch bumper - $750 No pic..... I have a 2" BL sitting in the garage, but not sure if I'm going to install it yet. :rockin: |
number two.
|
I don't think a "tube" style bumper would look good on a 3rd gen. Get an ARB/TJM and be done with it. Install the 2" body lift too.
:guitar: |
Cut that 2" BL in half.
|
just curious but....no arb in the possible choices?
|
I don't really like the ARB bumper, too box'y looking for me.
I'm leaning towards the tube bumper with some plates added to "close the holes" so to speak. My reasoning is I want the front end to be as "light" as possible. (I'm adding a winch as well) I know there are "other" bumpers too, but it's hard to get something made when you live so far away. I figured with the Tube or TJM, it would be close. Or I can go custom and get exactly what I want. (but more $$$) As far as the body lift. 2" sticks, if I wanted 1", I would have ordered it. I know what it looks like and I'm more interested in doing the "flat bottom" in time as well as getting max clearance in the wheelwells. |
fair enough. i will agree with you on the arb looking boxy, id say my tjm15 looks a little that way too. i like that look though. but if youre going for a light front end, a tube bumper of t17 sounds like what you need. go for it!

If you want a tube bumper call Jeremy at Weldtec
http://weldtecdesigns.com/ He made my rear bumper, and has done some work for other guys here on the board. Super nice guy, and local. |
Marc - Thanks! I never knew he existed. I will call him today.

ill have to go with http://www.armorology.com/

Wow, that is VERY nice. Unfortunately for me, I live in So Cal, and CO is a DRIVE for me!!
Unless that is, armorology can make it and ship it to me? |
I believe armorology needs you to bring your truck in.

So does he not keep his specs for vehicles? How much did your bumper end up costing you? FL is a super long way from CO. Thanks Aaron |
xcmountain80,
yes, im sure he keeps the specs. a custom bumper is built to the truck, lets say 2, 99 4runners, the mounting points can be off just a hair, and when he makes a mounting hole, the hole is only the size it needs to be, not little bit bigger to allow for the differances in the trucks. thats what makes it a "custom" bumper. yes he does need the truck there, to be assured that its an "exact" fit, i cant remember the name of the company that builds bumpers then sends them out, truck unseen, but there has been problems, with the bumper not fitting correctly, then you have to send it back, and hope they can fix it right, send it back to you, and hope it fits right. Im sure you could find someone close to you that could build you a good bumper, just take a pic of mine and ask around. hope this helps to clarify a custom bumper. EDIT: I also forgot that he reinforces in the frame. |
Ric; that has got to be one of the nicest 3rd gen bumpers i have seen. The angles of it truly compliment the runner compared to others that seem a little too large and boxy.
|
Godzilla,
thank you, i like it also :D |
you could do the tube bumper and cover up the holes like this bumper:

For a 3rd Gen, I vote for a bumper similiar to the style of Steves. I've seen it and the bobbed wings..those bumpers can really take some good punishment and still look good, plus they completely enclose the winch.
