My '95 4Runner finally spun a lower end bearing. I got a new day job. I needed a vehicle to get me there and back. Looked at a few other, non-Toyotas. Eh... This Tundra...eh. Body severely damaged. No airbags deployed. Frame, engine, drivetrain good enough. Needs a front diff., but I will just throw a few sand bags in the back. 2000 SR5 TRD. 123K miles.

Pretty cool if you can get around Fairbanks w/o 4wd...

dubbsbetty 11-20-2011 07:49 PM

Only really need 4wd when it snows and at most intersections. It usually doesnt snow between late November and February because its so cold. It has been -20F to -45F all last week, and supposed to be -15 to -40 all this week. The roads are nearly dry. Intersections can be icy though.

Good call! So what are your plans for the runner? I think the tundra would make a sick wheeler:rockin:

If the Tundra does last until after I get my 4Runner fixed, then yes, it will become a wheeler. Also, my new job is a significant pay increase and my mom has offered to co-sign on a newer vehicle whenever.
Only increased my insurance by like $12X.xx for the next 6 months starting in Jan. I will get a 5 year good driver discount then as well :)

This thing is seriously fun to drive. The LSD rear definitely helps. I've never owned a v8, have only driven a few. He told me it has some kind of glass pack on it. Sounds good. It has a leveling kit in the front. This is the first automatic I have OWNED, but I learned to drive on autos.

dubbsbetty 11-21-2011 06:35 PM

I think its cool man, autos can be great in the snow

The T3 edition was only on access cabs.
Not sure what you mean by "that was a single cab long bed."

In the 3rd Terminator movie, the chick drives a single cab long bed 2wd Tundra for her business. And it gets rallied. I figured he was referring to that Tundra since it gets destroyed...and mine is beat to hell...

As ugly as this truck is, I love it. I dont think I'm ever going to be able to drive a 22re again  Its 10x more comfortable than my 4Runner. Sounds damn good. And its nice being in a p/u again.

Got 80 miles to about 13 gallons of fuel. Thats reasonable for this time of year. Gotta let the vehicle warm-up 15-20 minutes before driving when its -30F and colder. My 4runner would get about 80-100 miles on 13-14 gallons this time of year.
Does anyone know off the top of their head what size of tank this truck would have? Im going to assume around 21 gallons.

Theres a weird electrical issue. The third brake light is always on when I turn the lights to "ON", but still brightens when I press the brakes. Then, the driver's side has a taillight, but DIMS when I press the brakes. Haha. I'm thinking I will just run new wiring where I need to. I should probably take care of this before it gets too much below 0 again :\

James Woods 11-23-2011 06:47 PM

:eeek: 80 miles to 13 gallons of fuel, I was thinking at first that I should go there and score a running and driving Tundra for a few hundred but no thanks. Nice find though, something you can just laugh about when you hit something out wheeling rather than jumping out to inspect the damage.

toyota4x4907 11-23-2011 06:58 PM

Oh no no. During the summer/warmer months, I get like 240-280 miles on 14 gallons in my 4Runner with the 33"s.

Also, the guy was babbling about doing some kind of tuning to make this thing run differently...or a chip or something..and it ended up running rich, so he SOMEHOW set it to run lean, so the CEL was on...but on Tuesday on the way home from work the light went out. Not sure if it is now not running lean, or thats just the mileage this pig gets. Either way, I'm used to using that much fuel. Does hurt the wallet some, but I'm used to it.

He was originally asking 1500 a few weeks ago. I really wanted it for some reason and was thinking about buying it. (before my 4runner died) then I didnt see the CL posting for like 2 weeks so I thought he sold it. In that time my 4runner died. So I was looking for a beater. He had reposted it and was asking 1000. I got it for 800.
There are some crazy crappy vehicles for insane amounts here. Most vehicles people are deeming PARTS CARS or FIXER UPPERS are asking like 750-1500 for mid-late '90s crappy econo cars, like Civics and Astro Vans.
