Delay in starter engagement after turning the key (approx. 2 seconds delay)

I have been experiencing a delay in my 2005 Toyota Tundra SR5 4.7 eng. STARTER. When I turn the key, sometimes it starts normally, but some times it is delayed from 1 to 3 seconds and sometimes I have to turn off the key and retry 2 to 3 times before it engages. Battery is new, 12.58 volts, terminals are clean and in excellent condition. Truck has approx. 94,000 miles and is a southern vehicle with no rust, in Nevada where it is dry...

I think you answered your own question. Other than checking starter fuse relay (if your model has one), I'd look at starter fixes or replacements. Doesn't stall out in the middle of driving right? Batt voltage is good. Alternator would be suspect if say you turned on your headlights with the engine off and then started and the lights got dimmer. Seems to be hit or miss with starter life expectancies. Guess it depends on how much abuse its taken from past incidents like start attempts after running out of fuel, rough starts on weak or dead batteries or multiple short trips. 94k is young.

I'm starting to have similar issues and I'm pushing 206k on a diff model. But I also have a 7 yr old batt that's not holding much charge as before.

If it still clicks when you turn, could be just worn or dirty starter contacts. Lot of info online on how to clean. Just dealt with mine and its in much better shape, even though my battery holds 12.4 volts engine off.

If nothing, then chasing the ignition switch wiring might be worth looking into, including the starter.
