How can i save rear frame & spring mounts ?
Gotta 85 FJ60 that has somewhat nasty rust issues on frame channel in area where ( front) rear spring mount attaches to frame. Should I attempt reinforcing with steel plate by welding or drill & bolt newer steel channel sections on ?
Also, does anyone know of aftermarket company that sells replacement spring mounts/frame brackets for rearend of my LC ? - thanks in advance - |
your best bet would be welding new plate (if the frame is even salvageable)
off the top of my head I would try specter off road (SOR), Man-a-fre, cruisersparts, proffits cruisers I would google rusted frame repairs or check out IH8mud (cruiser forum) to see what others have done. |
Maybe post pictures of what your dealing with.
To some even a little rust is enough to scrap the vehicle To others it is just a few hours work 85 is a long shot but have you checked if they can be had from Toyota Lots of Newer years the parts will work just fine. |
Not sure of width of springs on an LC but allpro and LROF sale self aligning spring hangars.
X2 on concerns for condition of frame. |
Your Frame is suffering from electrolosys it is unsalvageable anything you do will not solve the problem. sorry

You are either uneducated or misinformed. Electrolysis happens naturally when diisimilar metals are mated ot combined Positivie and negative nutrions fight against one another to create heat. Heat causes moisture and....... viola. Rust. Most of us learned this in high school. |

CHEMISTRY chemical decomposition produced by passing an electric current through a liquid or solution containing ions. I'm not saying it couldn't have been better steel. I am saying if you want us to read something you should provide a specific link that demonstrates your point. And still regardless, clean it seal or replace it still applies. |

I have owned a 83 fj60. The body was eating itself apart. I worked on many 60 series. All were either frame or body. Never both that I discovered. BAD STEEL. Cannot fix. My answer to the original question. |
