Any FJ40's out there?

Gudday,

Any FJ's out there? My 4runner is getting tired and I don't want to put any $ into it. Thinking of buying a '75 FJ40 and start a build (resuscitation). Suggestions would be welcome. Nice ones, that is.

You could probably by a new engine and tranny for your 4runner for cheaper than an fj40 restoration. I have both a 88 runner and a 75 fj40. Neither of them were rust buckets, but both required a lot of work. I drive the fj around town, but take the 4runner on long trips. It's also my winter ride.

Are you thinking about the fj as a daily driver? An fj40 in descent shape is going to go for about $15k.

I see Washington's Craigslist always has some, but usually have the small block conversion for about $6500. I just bought a clean 1f, transmission, and tc for $250. I have seen that before. When someone has an extra they never seem to sell. Might be easy to convert back.

Well, I've gone and done it. Picked up a 73 FJ40 that was 'good to go'. NOT! Anyway, that was last Feb. I'm driving it now, but don't trust it to go into the mountains. Since that was why I bought it, I'm in a quandary.
