'97 FJ80 lift suggestions

My dad has a '97 Lexus LX 450 (FJ80) that he's recently wanting to lift. However, two local off-road shops/parts suppliers had told him that the highest they would've been able to lift it is two inches (suspension lift, not body lift). My dad's rather persistent and does not think a two-inch suspension lift is good enough as he and I know it's definitely possible to get more lift than that.

He has leaned more towards the idea of lifting his LX 450 after he and I took it wheeling over the weekend; the rear hitch receiver scraped the ground whenever we tried to climb anything that was fairly steep, and the somewhat low ground clearance made going over certain obstacles a little iffy.

One idea my dad had in mind was to somehow attach airbags to the springs so the ride height can be adjustable, but in my opinion that doesn't sound very safe.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to lift an FJ80 higher than two inches?

Thanks,

Ditch the flares and running boards,trim/tuck the fenders.Buy some 3-4" lift springs. That should get enough lift to clear 37" easily.Any higher and you'll need to address steering issues. But once you start running 35"-37" you'll need to consider changing gears in the axles too.
