Gonna have to hold off, the core cost was a bit higher than I was expecting, plus needing to pull the trans for the install so will get one next time I pull everything out again.

It would be great to see the L-series short shifter added to the website so customers could order online...

Got some updates on our next kit

Here is our rapid prototype we approved just before New Year's Day:

And here is our first batch just about ready for anodizing and laser etching

Exclusive feature: We've included the thickness of the very hard to find and very leak-prone thick factory rubber gasket with those six spacers/washers into the base so all you'll need is simple silicone applied on just one surface and it's done. This one piece short throw base will replace 8 factory leak-prone pieces, and features our same unique serviceable shift pins as well!

Application includes 1985-1988 W56-A/B transmissions. Next we will work on 1989-1995 W56-C/D/E bases which will also be one piece and will incorporate a Short Throw T/Case lever as well.

If you have a 6cyl Toyota or a G-series transmission, then check out all the bases we already offer for you by visiting Transmission Shifter Parts.

Regards,
BigMike

I'm interested in the L52 Short throw kit as well - it's still not up on your website so what's the final cost and core charge on it? Also, I have the long hideous one piece shifter - do you still want that for a core? (see below)

kawazx636,

Update on this. We are down to our very last L45/L50/L52 short throw base and because we've switched to a new machinist closer to Fresno (the L-bases we have / we've had were made probably more than 5-years ago), we are using the last remaining base as a sample to get them back into production with our new machinist

(also this is why they are not listed on our website. We've only had a limited number on hand and haven't actually manufactured any replacements in a good half-decade)

I'll let ya know Re updates with it, and also if our machinist finishes with the existing base we have it will go up for sale of course.

Regards,
BigMike

Mike, No worries. I can wait around; I still have a ways to go before my truck is even on the road again. Thanks for the update, I'll add it to the never ending list of parts to buy!

Sorry but not yet. We have plans to build 2WD kits but will be manufacturing all 4WD applications first.

GREAT News: We are now manufacturing our own High Quality Shift Handle!

100% All-new & made right here in California from 100% USA materials:
  • Chromoly Steel One Piece Shift Lever
  • Oversized & press-brake formed 5/8" Chromoly Shaft
  • Hard-Anodized 6061-T6 Billet Aluminum Upper
  • Black Zinc-plated DOM Steel Retainer
  • Custom-made Tapered Spring

The most beneficial part about this for us is that we no longer have to run to the wrecking yard over and over to find additional shift handles to modify. Despite the old $100 core charge, only 12% of customers would return their handles for the core refund (the core charge was not high enough!). Without cores coming back, we run out of stock Toyota handles and it would usually be Marlin searching wrecking yards on weekends for more. What's worse is some core returns would be beyond repair and junked.

As you can see we have wanted to do this for a long time and are EXCITED to finally offer a COMPLETE all-new kit for the first time in our history of building short throws circa 1996!

Available for the following Short Throw Kits:W-series handles are nearly finished and will be released very soon!

Regards,
BigMike

Thank you for the reply kawazx636. We have made these in the past but the last batch we made took more than I believe 5 yrs to sell. There is just very little demand for them unfortunately. This isn't to say that we won't run another batch sometime in the future, but that we'd rather make kits for newer applications before revisiting older products.

Sorry it wasn't the news you were looking for!

Regards,
BigMike
