My new STD pistons came in from Australia today! I purchased the pistons on eBay form a seller called Auto Surplus. The set came with new pistons, pins, clips, and rings. I heated up some water and installed the connecting rods with no issue.
Crankshaft is back from the machine shop today. Mains are standard size and rods are .25mm. I rolled the dice last week and guessed the new bearing sizes and got lucky. The mains come in tomorrow but looks like it will be a couple weeks wait still on the rods. Friday I should be able to get quite a bit done.
Main bearings came in, so I was able to put them in this morning. Spent the rest of the day installing the 1/2 of the components. The pistons and head will have to wait until I get the connecting rod bearings in from Lithuania... Anyway, spring break starts right now! See you in a week!
Short delay on parts, so spent today changing the diff oil, setting up the rings, and resurfacing the flywheel. Parts will not be in until tomorrow evening. So close.
Yes! I've been busy with my new job. The rebuild is complete. I have been daily driving it and has been great. Not yet getting the 40mpg but getting close. I had to work a few bugs out of the transmission and a leaking water separator, but all is well now.
Hey my name is Ben and I’ve owned my 83 Toyota diesel for about 2 years. Finally spun a bearing on cylinder one (who knew it wasn’t meant to got 75 down the high way lol) I’m rebuilding the motor at the moment and found the sleeves on the same website you used. Haven’t had much luck finding the piston rings though and I’ll see if I can find some bearings from somewhere. Hopefully you see this post
Hello, Ben. I will look at my recordsand see where purcased the rings from. It was either the same place in Australia where i got the pistons and sleves or Ebay.
perfect, that’s all I was missing. I work for Toyota and actually managed to get my hands on oem bearings for the crank and connecting rods. Sleeves I’ll get from Australia. I’ll keep you updated
Ok, good deal. Take a look at the #1 camshaft lobe. They wear pretty bad. They are impossiable to get but keep an eye on it. I was able to get my hands on a second injection pump $$$ and had it rebuilt and plan to put in this summer. Good luck getting you parts together and take your time.
It has been a while but I'm still using the truck regularly. I did though have to swap bodies. The 81 frame and floorboards were so rusted I had to swap harness and all other components, dash, etc. over to the 79 gas truck. The 79 had a 20r was in great shape and a good donor. With the exceptions of a few nut plates, everything went smoothly from one body to the other. Harness by far was the most time consuming. I traded off all the AC components for a good working injection pump. I installed the replacement pump and had the original one rebuilt. I have not installed it yet but I plan to after I get a few other projects done. Currently rebuilding my 2012 Eco boost engine in my F150 FX2 and rewiring my 51 Plymouth Cranbrook.
