Fishing rod storage/transport Ideas.

So after many fishing trips and a couple broken rod tips....
What have people done as far as holders or ways to secure thier fishing gear out of harms way?

The PVC pipe way is probably the cheapest way to go. Just mount a threaded plug on both ends so you can get rods/reels in both ways. If you happen to have break-down poles you won't need a 8 ft. piece of pipe.

Any pictures of any "set ups" ? Anyone can make a pvc "rod case" I'm more interested in how and where its mounted.
Also when I go on trips, I usually take 3 or 4 rod/reel combos, a large cooler, my gear bag. Maybe someone has made a custom rack they could share?

Check this out... If you have reels mounted just use something like 4 inch PVC (or whatever size you need for your reel to fit inside the pipe ) instead of the smaller diameter that this guy uses. That way you don't have to take the reels off....

Since i have a first gen 4Runner i just wedge the butts under the roll bar and have the tips tucked up under the sun visor.

For my bigger saltwater rods, i have a piece of PVC pipe bolted to my brush guard (in the pre-existing holes from where the headlight pieces bolted to). And i can just store the rods there.

I have cheapo breakdown poles on a gun rack mounted on the rear side window. I use stick-to-itself velcro straps to hold them in.

if you have a 4runner or a camper shell you could also get some PVC that is about 5-6 inches long and mount them on the top of the shell.

In our 80 series I strung rope with a bunch of loops in them, and tied them to the handles in the roof. Worked well.

I always thought about the pvc just cutting a notch threw the threaded part and down the pipe for the reel to hang out side the pipe so you can use 2" pipe instead of 4", I will install them on the inside ceiling of my campershell or you could and them under the bed rail on the inside.

^^ ha! awesome idea....

mine just lives in the bed of my truck, sometimes broken down and tucked behind my mesh bag or hanging out the back (I use an 8.5' usually). I would say the gunrack style holders but even broken down, my rod barely fits in my taco cab! won't fit that high up.

maybe PVC bolted in the inside side of the bed?

I might steal and modify the inside rack idea ^^ for my 4runner... Vital, you could put one of those inside your cap/shell on your pickup... then meet me at the river to sling some salmon! fish on...

It's funny cause I was just searching for ideas like this about a month ago. I'm surprised that guys not here, I could have sworn that it was in a 4runner. I would probably try to find a way to fasten them better towards the front. I imagine they may be tangled that way.

It's a cheap option though.

Here are a couple more so you can see it better. It definitely is a 4runner BTW.
