slacker 09-07-2007 05:23 PM

tks . I need a beer :drink:

yotasavg 09-08-2007 03:21 PM

that's looking real good!

slacker 09-09-2007 07:10 AM

Thanks guys ..

it's getting close to completion , well as far as I'm taking it anyway ! .. now I can start the grinding and final body prep .

HAVOC 09-09-2007 09:52 AM

Looks like you've been busy.

Guess that means no floorpans for the first gens, huh?

slacker 09-09-2007 03:26 PM

no ... NOT a Chance ... not yet anyway

There is NO way I can produce them and bring them to market for a price I feel comfortable selling at .

slacker 09-10-2007 06:12 AM

no .. I wouldnt recommend it .. It would work for only a short while , but would soon delaminate . Metal and fiberglass expand and contract at different rates . you'd be better off , in my opinion .... taking a piece of metal , banging it into shape , and then using a "panel bonder" epoxy , to glue it to the floor ... like the *3M stuff I use , If it is done correctly , it will NEVER come apart , 3m guarentees it .

slacker 09-10-2007 04:44 PM

no worries bud ... I'm glad to share .

I was looking at my trekker the other day .. and I need floors 2 ... I think I will be building , and welding in pans though , just cuz I can :) :guitar:

slacker 09-29-2007 04:43 PM

so , back on it ... more work on the topper/canopy .. topside .. it's comming ..

slacker 10-01-2007 03:25 PM

soon .. boy :) .... soon ..

slacker 10-06-2007 03:22 PM

so new side windows are ordered , and here ..
I chose a basic canopy window/slider option , as it was the most economical choice .. oh and there 30% tint . look great , I think .

I have to revamp the whole canopy side for the glass to fit , but if ever a replacement is necessary , it will be avaliable anywhere .

slacker 10-09-2007 03:50 PM

holy cow .... I'm thinking I only want to do this project once .
what alot of work .

anyway , heres the top .. still working on body lines , but pretty good now .

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0323.jpg

also cutting/filling the window openings ..
these are completly different windows .. not just a bolt in .
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0325.jpg

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0324.jpg

and the ROUGH .. ROUGH window fit

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0326.jpg

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0327.jpg

slacker 10-10-2007 03:50 PM

thanks .. these are going to be nice . I think mine I might just do like this .
http://www.brian894x4.com/images/Sm_...j_rnsson_4.JPG

im not sure if that truck is a Trekker or not , other then the roof line , it looks like it , but I dont think it is .

slacker 10-20-2007 04:47 PM

so Progress

pulled the plastic cover off because it was all cracked and missing pieces where it is riveted onto the door ..
"hemed and hawed" about what I was going to do .. I was going to make a mould , and make a completly new one .. but to much time and money involved there , so I decided to repair the holes , and send it off to line-x as well .. it'll work out great . and match the rest of the rig .

hatch cover repaired
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0330.jpg

and sanded and ready for line-x

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0331.jpg

rear hatch is now completly apart , and ready for some line-X
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0332.jpg

no luck in finding rear hatch hinges , so I thought I would try to fix these ones . there siezed solid. I had them soaking for about 2 weeks .. each day , taking them out , and lightly "tapping" with punch and hammer .

and finally , they loosened up , and I was able to take them apart .

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0328.jpg

so all cleaned up , and neversiezed .. and now work great .

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0321.jpg

idayota 10-24-2007 11:22 AM

i was asked if i knew anything else about the icelandic trekker (or hilux as the case actually is)...here is a link to the page that has a little info on it.

http://www.brian894x4.com/Hiluxgeneration1.html

slacker 10-24-2007 03:59 PM

wow .. what a build . :)

slacker 10-30-2007 04:37 PM

so a wee bit to post ...

rear section has now been removed again .. time to start working on that .

Originally , the back half sits on a "winnabego" frame , that mounts to the Toyota frame . Bushings were toast , and not worthy of the new set-up .. got me to thinkin'

The Original mounts , I dont think were sufichant , because of all of the "leaks" I hear about , so I thought a softer compound mount would work better with the flexing , and handle a better "sway" of the back 1/2 . So I ended up purchacing some NEW "special" mounts , and some steel to make a new frame .

got it all "tacked up " under the body , so now time to weld it all up .

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0335.jpg

boxing the ends .

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0337.jpg

another "goofy" part of the Trekkers is the rear lamps .. They have these silly metal " u " brackets that hold the lamps in place .. you have to drill a hole in your lamps , and mount them to the brackets ??? dumb .....

so took the pockets from the 79-83 beds I build , and glassed them into the Trekker

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0336.jpg

Very rough right now .. but at least they will be easy to install , and RE & RE .

slacker 10-30-2007 04:38 PM

and some pics from the owner ..

painted/finished in Line-X

tks .. at least everything wont be rusted . I will reply to your PM , momentarily :)

slacker 10-31-2007 03:08 PM

and a WEE bit more today .

so , almost got er' finished up today ..

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0338.jpg

got the rear supports tacked into place , and also some front supports . Once the back 1/2 is back on the truck , I will be able to perminantly mount them to the fenders .

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0339.jpg

pulled it out again , welder it all up and got er' into primer .. shoot on some black tomorrow , and all done that part .
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0340.jpg

slacker 11-01-2007 03:53 PM

so all done the frame :) .. tail lamp pockets are also finished

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0341.jpg

I made 2 sets of fuel tank drop brackets ... not sure which one is needed yet (I suspect the 1" ) because of the body lift .

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0342.jpg

Now on to work on the sides :) ... almost done .

.

slacker 11-07-2007 04:07 PM

so done today ... the lowers anyway ...

today is the last day the tub will be upsidedown ...

also cleaned up the rear hardware , hatch shocks , lock ketch , plate .

hatch shocks seemed to be in great shape , but the hardware was rusty .. so I bead blasted all of it , and cleaned it all up to bare metal again .. zinc'd and painted ... I left the shocks as bare metal .. ran them under my wire brush , and they kind of turned out like a brushed aluminum .. I think they look awesome , so I clear coated .. and now are ready to assemble .

I am also ready to send out the hatch and cover .. I'm also going to send out the interior canopy trim plate to be line-x'd ..

.

slacker 11-08-2007 06:38 AM

frame was still there .. it was thin , and rusting bad , but it was still there .. thing was , it wouldnt now fit the long bed with out modification , and I figured , no sence in working with the old stuff , might just as well build a new one to last another 20+ years :)

so that what I did .

.

slacker 11-22-2007 03:23 PM

so bottom is DONE . and ready to line-X . top goes back on "hopefully" tomorrow . :)

it's being shipped , as is ... as the line-X is less expencive in Texas .

slacker 11-22-2007 03:31 PM

ohhh ... and a peak at my next TREKKER build ..

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...r/HPIM0350.jpg

don't mind the dust .. it's been sitting inside my shop for a while now .

there is one small rust hole on The right side .. front spring hanger , inside box steel .. you can see it in the pic .. it's so minor , I'm just going to weld in a patch , I see NO reason for a fish plate .

I'm going to clean it all up and POR-15 inside and out ... but I'm going to start a new thread for this one .

yotasavg 11-22-2007 04:40 PM

Yep ... but I'm shipping like this .. as it's less expencive where he lives .

If your missing those frame pieces, I have got;em:D
frame pieces ? which ones

Oh yeah, what length hatch strut are you using in the back? I think that the PO of mine installed some that were too long and with too much pressure and that may be causing some of my hatch frame flex leading contributing to my cracking issue
I'll have to do a measurement ... cuz , I dont know off hand .

i agree 100%, but maybe on your main site you can have a "project links" page that lists all of the threads to the current projects you are juggling :)

slacker 11-26-2007 06:48 AM

great Idea my friend , but I also started the post before I started the board .. these guys would crush me if I didnt finish :)
