Good mechanic in Sacramento area?

My friend's vehicles are going haywire and he needs a mechanic. He just moved to Sacramento and he does not know anyone. I see a few people on this board that are in the Sacramento area. Does anyone know an honest mechanic that does good work there that I could recommend to my friend?

I live in the sac area. What kind of work does he need done? What year and model does he have?

the_supernerd Feb 22, 2008 10:18 PM

He has a 91 Corrolla that he bought from a tow yard that needs some work. I believe he said it stalls, runs rough, and overheats. He also has an early 90s Honda Civic that needs a clutch.

Im not setup at home to do clutches but most engine work I would be able to do

I am also interested as well. I will be getting a new OME setup, nothing extreme, just swapping out stock shocks & springs with OME all around. I know I have talked to you before about it ToyTech, but you said that your shop is a little ways from Sacramento and that you didn't have a spring compressor . Please keep me updated. I have been doing some research and looking at some shops in the Sacramento area but I would feel alot better if someone with your Toyota expereince, especially 4Runner experience work on it.

I could do it yes. I would probably need to take your front springs/shocks and have someone with a compressor change them out if they dont already come assembled. Other than that, I could do the whole thing. I charge pretty resonably. Much better than any other shop of course. I can give you a rough price if you tell me exactly everything that needs to be done

Basically, changing out my stock springs and shocks with OMEs. That's pretty much it. Also, I think my steering rack bushings are shot and I was thinking of replacing them with the ones from Wheeler's Offroad. I was gonna send you a PM but I don't think your profile allows it.

Yes. I do get PM's I could do all of that NP! Too bad you didnt have 2 extra top shock mounts for the fronts. I could take all your front stuff to work with me and compress everything and save you a ton of money. Might be worth it to see if anyone has a couple used upper mounts for the front for cheap. It would make installation a ton faster. I could put the fronts all together during the week then have it ready for installation on a weekend. I could do the rack bushings as well

Thanks man, I am all about saving some dough and you have a PM as well.

I will e-mail my friend and see if he is interested in taking his car to you. By the way, are you a certified mechanic? What do you charge per hour?

toytech76 Feb 25, 2008 04:40 AM

I am ASE certified yes. I have been in the industry for about 11 years, and at my current place which we work strictly on toyota/lexus, honda/acura for the last 8 years. I usually dont have a per hour rate. I just see what the job is and quote a total price that beats any shop rate

My friend decided to come up to Sonora this weekend and I am going to help him with his car. If we cannot fix it, then I will send him to you.
