He won't have OBDII but he said thats not a problem. The dash gauges should still work as they should be separate from the engine ECU. The Tach is the only one that might have a problem but the vipec can run it directly.

Idiot lights can be made to work with the stand alone as well without a problem. Most of them should still work anyways though.

The only limits are how many he can run, the V44 has a limited number of input/outputs. The V88 has more then enough to do everything he could want and more but i still think it is a bit overkill.

IIRC the whole engine harness plugs into the ECU. Then outputs the body harness. Even the AC amp goes through the ECU.

Sure sounds like the hard way to do things to me...good luck.

Thats odd, are you sure there is not a separate body harness on our trucks? The ECU will output to the body harness but that is usually just for a few things, there is usually a separate body harness for all the basic non-engine stuff.

Setting up a stand alone for a truck like this is not easy if you want all the OEM stuff to work like stock but it can be done with some tuning and know how.

Piggy backs are ok to a point but there comes a time when they simply can't hack it anymore. Now is he at that point? hard to say, i doubt it with a supercharger. But if he ever goes turbo then yes he would want a full stand alone for sure.

I take that back, there is probably a connector or 2 on the engine harness that plug straight into the body harness. But still for a SCer why do all that extra rewiring? I'm running over 10 psi of boost with piggy backs, tuning is good.

Yeah, i did the same with mine as well. But with a full stand alone i know i could make a little more power and more consistent power.

Like i said, he could have stayed with a piggy back and it would have worked but he seems dead set of going stand alone so might as well help him. It is the "proper" way to do it, just costs a lot more.

Relax everyone I still have everything in tact. My friend is goin to wire it he knows what he is doing.

We painted the entire truck with black bed linner today. Sanded it down to the metal and globbed on 3 good coats. We ripped the carpet out and layed a couple in there too. 300 dollar flat black paint job, it looks pretty good.

Ill post more pics once its dried

Looks good, the V44 will be far and away better then that other ECU you were going to get, easier to tune as well!

yea megasquirt is just a blank ecu pretty much. so with all the time and hours on the dyno to setup could be considered the same price as just buying a VIPEC.

The megasquirt is an ok ECU but it does take a lot of know how to get it running, very much a heavy DIY ECU.

The vipec is still the better buy unless you have a lot of time to trade in place of money, the autotune feature is great if you have a load bearing dyno.
