so gotta ask- where does a shop vac come into play when painting a bumper?

Picking up the bumpers probably made for a nice drive. Always nice to meet the folks that make the stuff.
Those look like they will offer some great protection. Chasing the threads with a tap was a good idea!
Did you happen to grab a roll cage for a 2nd gen 4Runner while you were there?

You forgot to ask me to grab one dropzone! Like St. Louis MO is closer to you than Platteville, WI.

Little metal grindings wedged in a couple of corners is shop vac territory.

It was real nice to talk to them and see the shop in person, it always feels good to buy from decent people and they did not disappoint. A little drive is a nice bonus.
Holes all lined up. The 99 is all good, my 96 has a few hangy downy bits that need to be talked to. Me and it'll have a chat. I don't have as many places to bolt the bumper to, either. 2 on either side of the frame, 1 on each frame end, and the 5 along the bottom support. Not sure what I'll do about that, if anything.

That was my husband's excellent idea with the tap.

i was thinking if you grabbed while he wasn't looking I would only have to pay shipping
good call on the shop vac, I have permanent rust stain in my driveway because I have been sweeping stuff to the same spot for years and forget to use the dust pan. I should probably get a new shop vac someday

OH! Now I get it.
Me: So, Adam, I'm really interested in what a 2nd gen cage looks like. Where do you have those around here?
*proceeds to fictional area*
Me: LOOK! BUNNY!
*attempts to scamper off with a whole lot of metal but realizes girl power is on vacation*
Calls dropzone: Um. Er. Can you maybe bail me out?

Just went over the driveway with one of those magnety things. Too much barefoot, too little nearsight.
Hmmm, wonder what the neighbors would think if I went out and vacuumed it?

Today the 96 got pounded and cut on a little bit.

The 99's bumper manages to nearly cover the brackets at the front corners that used to attach to the oe bumpers. He did try removing the bracket up then the fender was wobbly. Looks good. Dark color. Noticeable only if you're looking for it.
It's hanging down just behind and below the back corner of the 4x bumper:

No big deal. My 96, though. The bracket is longer and BLUE.

Well, that's a situation.
Luckily the 96's fender didn't get floppy when I unbolted the bracket but I left it in anyway. After shortening the bracket and bolting the shortened bits back together I also bolted the fender liner to it and trimmed to fit better.

And that's that. I don't know if it's because the 99 has the fat lip and the 96 doesn't or just a bracket change over the 3rd gen years or what, but if you don't like weird messes hanging out and you get a 4xInnovations front bumper you may have to do a little coaxing. I'd have to suppose logically all the aftermarket bumpers with the skinnier wings wouldn't hide as much.

EDIT:
This in no way reflects on the bumper's build or quality. I definitely am very pleased with my 4xInnovations bumpers and would buy again in a heartbeat. You know, if I needed to bolt on a 3rd bumper.

Awesome work on the bumpers, seems I've missed a lot again and am going to have go back a couple pages.

Just trying to keep you on your toes! Speaking of toes, did you figure out your right lower control arm issue? I saw you repaired the camber adjustment stop, seems I've seen that exact damage before somewhere but am drawing a blank on where other than 3rd gen. I also can't remember if you ever changed those bushings or not, or was it just that good a hit to get that kind of shift?

Next up,
Upstairs re-do: roof rack gets a stern looking at.
Finish moving the cb antenna to the front bumper.
Install the rigid fogs when they get here. Was hoping for round but square is what I ended up with because round way too expensive.
Maybe make a bracket for the front Anderson connector.

Paint was chipping on the emblem so a little refresh:

Also painted the rack graphite to match the eventual wheel color (you know, round tuit)

And rebuilt the light bar. I was using a stock load bar but it was too wiggly off-road. We had a bit of left-over unistrut so I used that, the nuts off the old transfer case mounts and a couple of bolts. The nuts (or some sort of spacer) are required to clear the hump in the middle of the roof. Maybe I should paint the nuts so they don't stick out so much. Or not. Will see how it works out. Still need to aim the lights.

Your bumpers look great! I'm distracted and I just spent minutes looking for the "like" button. Had to check that I was logged in. Doh. Wrong forum. Anyway, "like,"

Ha, I do that way too often and thanks!

Installing amber floods in the holes today and find a spot for the switch, finishing up moving my aux reverse lights back to the roof rack, get zip ties to finish tying up the wiring for all the rack lights, need to install the cb antenna on the bumper and tune it, need to re-do the wiring for the Viair- the elements have not been kind- and it needs bigger gauge wire than I had at the time.

aux reverse lights

96 4Runner 291,xxx miles

Got the Viair wiring back in order. Also got a present from the hubby (thanks!) that I've been eyeballing for a couple or more years now but couldn't justify the cost:

wheelskins axx

Size AXX Wheelskins for anyone curious.

Photobucket is something something darkside. Will get it sorted out somehow and get as many of the pics back up as I can.

Holy crap. What happened to your pictures? I rushed to see if my pics are still there and they are. Photobucket keeps sending me notices to upgrade. "It would be a shame if something happened to your pictures..." and I guess I'll pay them now. I don't get how my pictures end up out of the order they are uploaded though.

Got some parts for the '89 but it's really hot so they will wait a couple of days. Son and 2000 4Runner (my favorite 4Runner) will be down soon. We are at the beach. Not sure I want to fight 20 miles of traffic to drive in the sand though.

That wheel skin is sexy. I'm not sure my sewing skills are up to it.

I know Nervo19! No notice, just no pics. Luckily they are still in the bucket, just no linking without paying the ransom. PB wants $100 a year for unlimited linking or $400 for linking and 3rd party hosting which is apparently what happens here.

I've downloaded all of my photos and they're now in albums in my google photos account so I have everything. Once I get my 1400 (!!!) ducks in their rows I'll get rid of my PB accounts. I just have a long slow process of putting them back up on the forum once I figure out how to link or whatever I need to do to make them show up. I tried one above but it's huge, so that's something I have to deal with too. Threads I've posted pics in won't have them any more, I won't be able to do all of them or remember where they're all at!
