Pretty bummed about this, should I attempt to fix or buy another 4runner and transfer my parts?
No one was hurt.

Both airbags deployed, core support, hood, rad, condenser, fan all damaged also lots of little things damaged.

could be worth salvage. got a buddy with frame machine? did the fenders get pushed into doors?

Texas_Ace May 16, 2013 03:12 AM

Looks fixable, weather it is worth it is up to you.

Could always turn it into a trail rig since you would not get much for it if you sold it in that condition.

A. Fix
B. Get another 4runner, swap parts, part out\put 3.4l engine into pickup.
C. Get another vehicle, part out.

I wish I knew how weak the stock bumper was, guy in a hyundia car was able to drive away.

looks fixable to me. shops straighten out frames on cars with much worse damage than that. go get a quote and then decide what to do.

turbo8 May 16, 2013 09:03 AM

It's fixable it would cost me about $1000 for the front end parts, that was just a quick estimate from rock auto. That's not including paint. frame doesn't look damaged besides the front skid plate mount ripped off.

I'm Just not sure what to do with the airbags

Texas_Ace May 16, 2013 11:27 AM

Airbags would be a junk yard deal, search around and see what you can find.

Could run without them depending on what you use the truck for but ideally you want them fixed obviously.

Could always run without them for the time being and be super careful about wearing the seatbelt and then fix the airbags later when you have the money.

totally worth repair. My 4runner suffered thru two pretty brutal front end crashes and still going and looks as good. Putting a lift on it tomorrow and going to trick it out a bit..

crazypaint May 16, 2013 07:37 PM

Just straighten the core support

justin_4runner May 16, 2013 08:04 PM

if it was driving good and didnt have any major issues with anything on it, then well worth fixing, for the amount of money u might have in it (as i dont know what u have in it) you couldnt replace it with what u will get. u could find all the parts off ebay for not bad prices.

turbo8 May 16, 2013 08:33 PM

core support is mangled beyond what I would feel right repairing. I took everything off and started drilling the spot welds.
The bud built skidplate might be fixable, I'll have to take it to a sheet metal shop and see If they can bend it back, Its 1/4" aluminum. Ill have to make a new front skid plate mount that will be beefier than stock.

Where are the air bag sensors? are they on the ends of the frame rail?
