Why does it seem like the power door lock button is wired backwards?

Have you guys noticed on your 4Runners, the lock/unlock button seems backwards? As in, you press forward to lock and back to unlock. Seems very counter-intuitive, since you pull up to unlock and push down to lock.

Just thought it was interesting. Anyone know why it is wired up that way?

skjos 09-27-2007 10:29 AM

I agree, I have to hit that sucker twice everytime I use it.

lr9788 09-27-2007 10:31 AM

I have often wondered that. It throws people off all the time.

Nuthuts96 09-27-2007 10:49 AM

x2 on the comment. anyone wired it (flipped it) around? is it possible? my first instinct says it isn't, but maybe toyota had something up their sleeve...

cackalak han 09-27-2007 12:41 PM

Yeah, I'm thinking that there HAS to be a logical explanation for this. I'm sure Toyota didn't flip a coin to figure out which way to wire this up.

But so far, I haven't been able to think of anything relevant.

X3. I thought I was the only one that wondered that, glad I'm not....

Never noticed....I NEVER use the switch since I use the remote to lock/unlock.

On my old 98, I only had to hit the keyfob button once to open all of the doors. On my 02 (I believe 99+'s are all the same), you hit it once to open just the driver's side and twice to open all. When I'm picking someone up and the pass. doors aren't open, that's one of the only times I hit the door lock button....and usually twice. :hillbill:...............:pop:

My 96 makes sence...

Down/forward to lock & up/back to unlock.. just like the door buttons...

Texas_Ace 09-27-2007 04:15 PM

I also end up hitting the button twice when i do it. Even if i stop and think about what i about about to press i always seem to press it the wrong way. I can say this is the only thing i hate about toyota. That and my remote not working at all :-(

MARSHALLMAY 09-27-2007 04:39 PM

well at least they didn't get the window switches backwards...

cackalak han 09-27-2007 04:43 PM

Also, looking at the picture doesn't help, because the the key is drawn on the unlock side of the button, which I associate locking up with the key.

Ha Ha Ha!!! That's me too. Now I stare at it for a minute before I unlock the door, trying to remember which way to push it.

Gets me every time. I thought I was dislexic or something. Well, I still could be....:con:
