Whos' been a theft victim?

OK, I know it's nothing, but it sure makes you feel violated. My 4Runner was in my yard and some neighborhood kids had the stones to steal my chrome valve caps. That's right, not 1, not 2, not even 3, but all 4 of them.

Geez, now I gotta call my insurance company... j/k

Throughout my driving years, I've had one car stolen (83 Grand Prix (folks car, no alarm) and two cars broken into (Escort GT - they got my radar detector and radio and my Celica GTS - suckers couldn't get anything out )

Curious who has been ripped off or vehicle related stuff or even your vehicle? Call it morbid curiousity...

Well I was going to post about my luck on that topic, but Im not going to jinx it.... *knock on wood*

I have 5% limo all the way around an alarm, and good common sense with my system. I am pretty darn low key with my system....

never had anything stolen, thank god

but trying to steal anything in my car wouldnt be too smart...

if you wanna steal the head unit you have to rip out the entire dash, both sides first, then the middle part. here is where oyu run into problems. you cant take off the bottom piece unless the car is in some gear besides park because it gets in teh way.

ok ok... a robber will be able to do this... but can he do it in FIFTEEN seconds? i dont think so. my head unit has a DFS alarm on it.. meaning if the face plate isnt on there within 15 seconds of opening a door or the key isnt in the ignition to ON, the stereo alarm goes off. it cranks the amps up full with a nice high pitched alarm sound, somewhere around 100 decibles.

dont open any doors in my car

also, my subwoofer box is so huge it will only go out the back door.. you couldnt get it over the back seat and out the door. good luck rolling down my rear window without a key

I'm pretty confident about my car

I had my car broken into in the barracks parking lot of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. On base!! They stole my Kenwood CD player, my 2 8" passive SAS Bazooka's, my Kenwood 6x9 3-ways in boxes, my radar detector, MTX Thunder 10" woofer, and even broke my passenger side window, and the door panels to take my 6.5" door speakers. They didn't see my CD changer and 5 channel amp that were under my front seat and behind the front seat (I had carpet on top of the CD changer so it looked like it was the floor). This was in my 1979 Datsun 210 station wagon back in 1997. It was a pretty fun POS. I had it lowered and did a 5spd swap, 200SX rear swaybar and 280Z bucket seats in it riding on 13" slotted mags with 185/55R/13 Comp T/A HR4's. No one would look twice at it unless I was flying on the freeway_the top speed went from 83 MPH as a 3spd auto to 110 MPH as a 5spd! My car never felt the same after that. My stereo wasn't insured-I only had liability isurance on that old car.

My alarm scared the dude off, i even remember the time, but nobody has ever gotten away with anything. And i have lived in the GHETTO for years.{KNOCK ON WOOD}.

Everything within sight I keep stock (quick glance anyway). Gotta make sure to cover everything else discreetly - none of these Jabba sized "mystery" bundles in the backseat.

and, of course, always, always, ALWAYS use a CLUB.

The only thing lifted off my truck? My happy face antenna ball

When I was still in High School, some punks took my chrome valve caps too, along with my little antenna decoration type thing. I wasn't too pissed off about it, but I was pissed knowing that they touched my truck!

I had a 1985 Ford Ranger, my first new car, and when I lived in Riverside CA, I had at least three stereos ripped off.

One time they did about $1500 (1988 money) damage to the door to get in and the dash to take out about a $300 system.

I bought one of the pullout models and one night I forgot it and they TOOK THE BACK WINDOW OUT and left it in the bed to take the unit.

Now I have a very sensitive alarm. It will go off even if someone tries to lift my TRD chrome valve stem caps

About 2 years ago, my GF and I parked the VeeHickAll in her driveway around 2am. We came out around 8am and my rear driver's side window was smashed and the driver's door was cracked open. (side note: gotta' love the response to alarms going off in a residential 'hood huh?).

They tried to get my Sony Xplod, but couldn't pry it out of the dash (amateurs!). The net loss was a case of beer that I had in the back seat. The insurance company covered the window and pry-bar attempt on The Tunes. I didn't claim the case - though the adjuster was cool enough that I could have.

I had my vent visors ($50) stolen from my truck. They tried to get in by prying open the xtra cab windows but couldn't get them open and ended up putting a small dent there.

I have one of those viper alarms, that if you bust a window, or open a door while it is armed, the remote starts beeping, alerting me that something is happening. So I thought I was pretty safe.

last month I was at the dealer, in one of their 29 min oil change places, and I was staring at the bottom of the rig up on the rack .. and something didn't look right. After about 5 min of staring I was like "wheres my spare!!" ... now I have no idea if it was stolen at one of the shops I took it to, or if someone lifted it elsewhere.

now I ride around with a can of fix-o-flat.

if youve ever looked at the internals on a 2nd gen's door, you CAN'T jimmy the internals of the lock with a hanger. It is literally impossible, now messing with the tab you push up and down on with a hanger is a different story, but even the locksmiths have a bitch of a time doing that one....

I dont know about others generations, but that wont keep em out - they'll just break a window or tow ya...

mpulver I guess your right. And for the new runners are they more secured on the spare tire part harder for them because the hole to lower the tire are covered by the tailgate and I think the older models had the hole on the bumper or does anyone else know if they can still take them on the newer model besides opening your tailgate.

we've been hit a few times

both my wife and I have had stuff stolen from our cars. a total of four break-ins since 1991. just this week some punks popped the drivers window on my wife's 96 civic and stole the ash tray and the jack - now the window leaks and i have to replace some trim. All of which happened in the wholesome state of Minnesota. Ironically I've lived/worked in much more notorious areas and have never had a problem anywhere else.

Funny story: I actually cought a couple college-age fu%$s stealing some trash cans in our alley. They must have wanted them for a kegger or something. Funny thing was they picked a completly full trash can and were dragging it down the alley behind their jeep. I heard the noise and walked out back to see what was going on and caught them trying to pull the trash out of the can while hanging out the back side of their jeep. I came around the corner of my garage, yelled out their license plate number, scared the driver so bad he punched it, the guy hanging out the back almost fell out, and now I have a new trash can. They must have dragged the can for a while because nobody on my alley claimed it. I reported the plate to the police but have no idea if anything happened.

Back in the day I had a Alpine CD player and a Cobra radar detector stolen from my Jeep Cherokee. I asked around, but never found out who did it. I had LoJack installed in my 4Runner when I bought it last year.

Why would someone take the ashtray of all things? ? My friend was getting something on his 1st gen fixed and someone broke in and took his $380 Sony stereo! As we all know the stereo's are screwed in inside the dash, so they ended up actually beaking the dash off to get the radio.

I had my 85 VW Golf stolen the day before my Dad died of an annuerism. I called Dad that same day and we had a laugh about the thieves getting a VW with rods that were loose at 70,000 miles. Next day I got the call from Mom. I had to rent a Chevy Baretta to go up to KS in. They also got the only tape of a bluegrass band I used to be in.
