Where can I find a fog lamp??
The left fog lamp does not work on our 99 4rnr, it hasn't worked since we bought the vehicle a few months back. Where can I find another lamp, other than thru the stealership?? All of the wires are there and connected, so I am assuming the lamp is burned out
Any ideas???? |
i'm pretty sure Hella makes lights to go in there. i think they are the micro DE lamps. Peformance products sells a kit for 99-02 runners without the factory fog option. i think they also sell the hella lights. check the site to make sure the lights are the same, then shop around. you could probably get a good deal on ebay, or check the classifieds if someone has put on an aftermarket bumper.

Try replacing the bulb, most auto parts stores should carry them. Take the bulb out and see what type it is. Most fog light use a standard H3 bulb.

The factory fog lights on the '99 4Runner are Hella Micro DE's and they take an H3 bulb. A replacement shouldn't cost more than a few dollars. I suggest checking to see if there is voltage at the bulb when the fog lights are turned on prior to replacing it, just to be sure it's the bulb and not a wiring problem.
Pop the rubber boot off the back of the lamp and slip the retainer clip off of the bulb. There is one wire to disconnect. Simply pull it free from the connector. The new bulb goes in in the reverse order. Simple as that. |
Thanks to you all for the info. I will be checking out the problem tonight or tomorrow night.

The OEM replacement by Sylvania only will run about $3 and are easy to install. I went expensive and replaced all my bulbs with Silverstars. The H3s are about $17/each.

I replaced mine with H3 Nokya Yellows off of eBay. I love them.
|
David, were the bulbs yellow or did you replace the whole lamp? I'd love to just replace the bulbs with actual fog bulbs.

I replaced the headlights to SilverStars today, and my are they nice. 99% the color of HID, at 1/10 the price. |
I found them at *cough cough* Walmart for $34 a pair about 10 months ago along so I spent close to $80 doing all the bulbs and they definetly are a step up over stock but I'd like the driving lights to be a little brighter but at least with the Silverstars you can actually tell they are on compared to OEM.

Make sure to replace it with the same wattage bulb that it calls for. Don't go any higher. Some parts will melt if you go any higher. I made that mistake in my old VW Passat wagon. It had the same fog lights.

I just replaced the bulbs, they are a deep yellow gold and work great in fog.
This is what I got: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H3-NO...spagenameZWDVW They say they have a 70 watt output with 55 watt input. I almost believe it because they are very bright. |
Oh...by the way...they look wicked against my Blue-tint headlights. Woot!
|
I replaced my H3 bulbs in my Micro DE's with Hella Yellowstars. They're a great contrast to my Sylvania Silverstars and are also an improvement in night time fog and rain than the standard whiter H3.
