wheel spacers recommendations? Yay or nay??
 

Hi, I'm looking for a 1.00" or 1.25" wheel spacers for some gx470 wheels that I'm getting. I'm not that excited about wheel spacers BUT I'd like to know what you think. What would you guys recommend?? Anyone run into problems??

Be sure to get quality ones. Do the 1" ones have seperate lugs, dont get ones that use your lugs for everything...

also, I know quite a few people using them and putting serious abuse on them and have never had a problem.

I ran 2 inch wheelspacers on my hilux and within a few months busted a rear axle bearing. My mechanic blamed it on the spacers. What do you all think?

it can definately put more stress on a bearing, it puts all the weight farthur out and in turn, puts more leverage on everything. However, there is quite a difference in a 2" spacer and a 1.25" spacer.

A spacer wont do any more damage to a bearing than a wheel with the same change in offset.... It is a risk, but sometimes a necessary one.

I agree, I have a seperate set of wheels and tires for wheeling and they have 3.75" BS. I haven't had a problem yet, but it will wear on things a little faster than normal... Not much, but its simple physics

although, the tires being stuck out a little farther can help keep the body off of things in some situations and it obviously widens your stance to help a little with rollover issues. Which Im guessing is what AH64ID is saying

Yep, and its amazing what Backspacing will do for fitment. My winter tires are on a 16x8 with 4.25" BS and they would rub with 35's, but I have 35's on 15x8's with 3.75" BS, and no rubbing issues...

yup, I have 265/75 16s on the factorys and 33 12.50 16s on some streetlocks with 3.75" BS. I only have two inches of lift and only had to do very minor trimming, I can be at full lock and stuff a tire with no rubbing.... I love it

Yeah the ones that I was looking at was from Marlin crawler. Would 1.00 or 1.25 really put stress on my bearings?

I have only ever use .25" spacers (I need the clearnce to the a-arm for chains) with no problem.

1 or 1.25" spacers will provide more stess than stock, however I wouldnt worry about it too much. Kepp the bearings well packed and go about your business and ignore...

I think I may be selling my 1.25 inch spacers since I went up in tire size I no longer need the psacers to give me solid stance... PM me if your interested.

I rub at the back of a stock finder on front wheels. See ad's claiming to "fix rub issues" but when I think about it wouldn't the wheel be more likely to rub the farther from the hub?

It depends on how/where you run. and the wheels you have... some it will fix, some it will make worse...

Here's a (slight) side question...

I just got my new BFG MT 285/75/R16's mounted and, as suspected, there's rubbing up front at full lock. I'm about the buy the Marlin spacers (they're local and I can get them before the weekend), but....

If I space out the front 1.25", shouldn't I space out the rear as well, lest the truck look goofy with a wider track up front than in the rear?

You're priviliged to have Marlin close to home. IMHO, ideally you'd want to space all 4 wheels. But try just the front and see how it looks. Late 70s blazers had a much wider tack upfront.

I ordered two sets, I figure I can return one if needbe. Good call on the old Blazers, but that's making me think "goofy". :)

btw... I THOUGHT Marlin's warehouse was here in WA - the site is saying Fresno though. Hmm... I could be confoozed, but I'll know for sure soon. :)
