What are your tire experiences?
 

I'd like opinions of what YOU have run on your vehicle, not someone else's truck. A lot of my buddies are like that...full of opinion but no experience.

Bridgestone REVO AT's seem pretty popular around here. What are some of the reasons they are so desireable?

I've always had good luck with BFG's, M/T's 33x12.50x15, A/Ts's 35x12.50x15, even the factory Rugged Trails 265x70/16 took such a good beating I've bought them again for my work truck. They lasted about 20,000 miles. The AT's wore pretty well, but I had to plug them alot since they were getting run on rocks regularly. The M/T's were good all around, only tread chunking off occasionally from crawling on the rocks again.

I've run through a set of SS TSL SX's 33x15.50x15 as well, they sounded gnarly, but sucked on wet pavement, which also applied to wet clay. Talk about slippy! Only worked well on dry rock, sand, and soupy/chunky mud. Wore out super fast, though.

Bridgestone Dueler M/T 31x10.50x15 worked well as a all around trail tire, but wore out stangely, possibly due to the TTB front suspension on my ranger at the time. Some of the tread blocks were wore down more than the others right after it.

I've used others tires, but these tend to be the one's worth mentioning.

to sum everything up...the REVOS are the best tire for an AT. They are great off road and great on road. I had them and loved them. It all depends on your type of wheeling.

BFG mud and all Terrains. Muds seems to wear like iron and grip the best overall except for snow. The muds are LOUD. The AT's were alot quieter and seemed to grip better in the snow. They sucked for any kind of mud. To me they seemed to wear faster than the MT's.

I had Firestone and they absolutely sucked. I don't remember the type but it was an off-road AT tire. This was about 5 years ago. They wore like crap, grip sucked and they were noisy.

Cooper Discover LT's and they were worse than the Firestones. Brand new they couldn't get through 2" of mud. Absolutely sucked in the snow. They wore like iron and were a quiet tire.

I've got Bridgestone Desert Duellers, and they have been awesome! I've put around 20000 miles on them, and they still have a lot of tread on them. Very happy with them. Have pretty good wet weather traction too. Too bad they were discontinued! :cry:

From my limited experience, I like the Geolander AT for on-road use. The tires stick well to the ground, look good and used to be pretty cheap. I think prices have gone up as popularity has taken off.

They are very quiet on the highway even at high speeds. BTW, I have 265/75/16.

For those that read that I complained about the noise of these tires a few months ago, that was b/c I bought a used set that were bad. Once I replaced the two bad tires (cupped and uneven wear), I've not had a prob since.

FWIW> my next tire will be the Nitto Terragrappler A/T.

I forgot to mention what is on my Bronco, 33x12.50x15 Savero M/T's. I had never heard of the name, but needed some tires quick for my Ford, and that was the biggest M/T the local NAPA had at the time. They have a similar tread to BFG M/T's and ProComp's M/T, but with less sidewall protection. They seem to resist puncture well, but chunking of tread is happening already at 2000 miles. This isn't too shocking, as this rig is 80% off road. The price was pretty good, approx $120.00/tire

Althought I have limited miles on them so far. I'm liking the Interco SS TrXus MT's. They have terrific grip off road, and that aren't as horrible as I thought with on-road noise. I'm waiting for rain and snow so I can see if all that siping makes them better than the BFG MT's and MTR's in the wet stuff.

Yeah..my future choice for the Taco and Ford will be:
Taco: factory size Goodyear MTR or BFG M/T
Ford: 36x14.40 IROK

Looked at the MTZ's but way too expensive and not anything special IMHO

I had Yoks on my '97 and they were a nice tire but I'm really liking the street behavior of my Nittos and their hydroplane resistance is much better than any BFG KO I've driven on and off road the Nittos were at least as good as my Yoks which did the job off road too.
Revos rock too but IMO BFGs are mainly driven by fact that everybody has them and as a daily driver (so-so street manners) tire they aren't worth the extra $100+ you'll spend over the Revos,Nittos or the Yoks. The Revos and Yoks also have a mileage warranty.

Ive run Kumho/Venture AT's for 5 years. put 40-60K on them.

At the same time ive run a set of Kumho MT's that have about half that life. Much softer but have been a great off road tire.

For less than a $100 for both the MT and the AT ive been VERY pleased with them.

Goodyear Wrangler GSA: Suck. Sidewall punctured by a small twig.
Pirelli Scorpion AT's: Came with my 4Runner. They have worn evenly. Decent off-road and great on-road performance in a desert climate. Been on rocks and in mud. Sucked pretty bad in mud, but they are at 50% tread right now.
BFG AT KO: Had them on my 98 Taco LTD. Best tire I have ever owned. Kicked royal butt in desert wheeling. Never let me down once. Did ok in the mud for AT's, and great in the sand aired down. Did awesome on the rocks and driving through creeks with sand bottoms. OK in the rain (acceptable). Good on dry pavement. I am still trying to decide on my next tire, but KO's are in the top 3.
