What are my limited slip options?
 

Okay, project "Save money on gas and insurance" has officially begun. I have decided to head in the "trail" direction, but NOT "rock crawling." So far, I have been throwing around a few ideas. I think a LSD would be nice, I don't plan on lifting wheels at all, but I do play around on gravel and dirt. This would be in an '85 p/u...what kind of axle does that have? I assume my only option is a true trac? This will see some winter use, but I would expect a LSD would HELP on snow and ice? :dunno:

I have decided to retain my 22R as long as it passes a mechanical inspection. I am definitely getting a dual timing chain as well as a couple performance mods (new carb, exhaust system&headers) All it really needs is a paint job, new front fender, new bed, and new front...maybe I will put a 4Runner clip on it, is that possible??? I am also considering a "walk through" cab, but I'm not sure if that will be possible. Oh, and I'm also rebuilding the clutch. (I believe it is the original)

So did you sell your 4runner? As far as lsd's, I think you can put in Auburn's and maybe TRD's(?)...Hopefully someone will chime in with more info. Also, to save money, instead of getting the dual timing chain kit....You could get the metal backed timing chain guides, since those are the things that are prone to breaking and contaminating. I had mine installed in my '87 turbo 4runner. Those are cheaper than the dual timing chain kits and In my opinion, the guides are the weak link and not the chain itself since the chain is not really a 'wear' item unlike the timing belts.

I haven't put up the ol' 4Runner just yet. I will this week, hopefully it will be sold in a week or two, and I can get the pickup done in a month. I didn't realize I said dual row timing chains (I was looking at some when I was typing that) I meant the metal backed timing chain. The dual row is like $400...jees...
