I was painting my WARN Hitch Shackle Hanger today. I used Duplicolor Gunmetal Wheel Paint and Clear Coat.

I put the bracket on a table in my backyard, with the pin. The shackle itself got hung up with some shoelace on my fence.

So Im spraying along. Got 5 or so coats of color ont he bracket and shackle, and a couple on the head of the pin. I got to clearing. Again, about 5 coats ont he bracket and shackle, and 2 on the head of hte pin.

After the last coat, I went inside. abotu an hour later, I go outside to check on it. I found the bracket sitting ont he ground, witht he paint all marred, and it was embedded with debris all over hte place.

UHG. How do I get this crap off so I can respray it?

paint thinner? or sanding disc should do the trick. I'd say paint thinner first?

Btw, keep it the way it is cuz it'll add some character

Any decent chemical paint stripper should work very well on new paint.

Go to the local Pep Boys or Autozone and get a can of "Aircraft" style paint stripper. One brand I've used is made by Tal Strip. That'll take the paint right off.

if it's fresh enough, gasoline may be all you need to take it off.

Put it on and wash it in the river again! Sorry I just couldn't resist. Anyways I would go for the aircraft idea. I've used it myself on paint and that stuff will eat it right off.

Not everyone has access to a sandblaster.

Just let it cure completely sand it smooth and throw one more coat on it. I mean it is going to get beat up anyway, the paint is going to scrape off on the inside of the hitch and against rocks and sticks, why bother painting it? I would have just hit it with a coat or two of clear and left it.

You could also use a wire wheel on an angle grinder or drill. Should take it off pretty easily.

If you have some carb cleaner lying around that will take it right off.

I took a flathead screwdriver to it and 99% of it came off. Im going to 80 grit it tomorrow to get most of it off. Then when I cna find time, 300 grit it, then prime, paint, clear, dry.

I revoke my earlier recommendation...after thinking about the sheer ignoramusness nature of this post...if you can't figure out how to take paint off something...you need serious help and deserve to be wedgeed to death.
