which type of shocks?

I want to replace the old stock shocks on my 1992 4runner. Not really looking for the best seeing as how I am on a budget but something cheap and reliable that will be mainly used for pavement with occasional off roading. My local auto store has Monroe shocks and rancho rs5000, I want to get the rancho ones but I would save around 50 if i get the Monroe Sensa-Trac shocks. Is there a major noticable difference between the two and are the Monroe shocks worth it? -Thank you

My uncle has some Ranchos on his truck and I think those things are second only to bilistiens. He has the ones that you can adjust to suit your riding tastes.

As far as monroe I really can't say too much one way or the other about them.

Just my $0.02,

Whenever Ive replaced shocks/struts on any vehicle ive always used sensa tracs, they are a great hwy and city ride, dunno about offroad perf.

SKYJACKER.... Awesome on road. AMAZING Offroad. Lifetime warranty, Work at stock height or 3" Lift. Un-beatable Price.

Ranchos all the way. I just replaced my stock front shocks with ranchos and the difference is amazing.

Based on your criteria I would say you should get the Monroe. You would save money and get a better ride. The Rancho are more suited for off road driving- do you know if they are the RS5000 or a different series Rancho shock?

venturanova1 07-23-2004 12:29 PM

they would be the rancho RS5000 series

funny. i posted the same question w/ the same criteria. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/suspension-recommendation-36515/ and everyone said the rancho rs5000 suck

RANCHO SUCKS.... Maybe I had a bad experiance with them, They arr overpriced and try getting them warrantied if you wheel.

I know nothing about rancho and bilstein, other than that they seem over priced, but I can tell you that the sensa trac shocks and struts give you a great on-road ride.

i think rancho more or less lives off their old reputation these days. RS5000s are stiff as hell, if i was going to get a cheapo stiff shock i'd just settle for some procomps or something

imho, bilsteins are the best all around shocks out there :)
