Tried Searching, Need to verify steps to get Stereo out of '99
After lots of searching (on here and Google) I have just one or two questions on removing that front cover to get to the stereo. There are just the 5 clips holding it on, right? I have a "hook tool", but I think it's too big for this (it's for door panels, carpet, things like that). What's the best thing to use to not bust anything?
Also, on a '99 does the consol have to come out? Does anything have to be done with it to get enough room to slide the stereo out?
I'm working on getting a Scion (Pioneer) stereo for it and I would like to get this swapped out. I don't have a Toyota Dealership close to me to get clips or anything if I bust it up.

The panel must be removed first before the radio can come out. I'm assuming you a double-din radio correct?
First, remove the panel around the gear shifter. Once that panel has been removed, starting at the bottom, slowly pry off the panel that surrounds the radio. You should be able to pull it out far enough to unclip it and then reach behind it to unplug all the electrical connections.
To reinstall, connect all the electrical connections back together and snap the panel back into the dash.
Once you've done it, you'll be amazed how easy it is. I've removed mine at least a dozen times to do radio mods on my '02 Sport.
