Transmission Rebuild
Hello I have a question and a proud owner of a 1994 4x4 5spd 4runner with 74k miles on it. Im wonder if I need to rebuild my tranmission because I cant shift into 4th gear ..I would have to hold in and then shift. Also 1st gear pops out is it the bushing?? Just want to know how much a tranny rebuid is just to estimate in the future. Thanks

Asking for a rebuild estimate never yields a really good response.
Up till Oct I had a 95 with a Transmission that had gradually been going bad.
Most of the shops I went to wanted $300 just to give me an estimate because they have to take it apart. Not to mention, a lot of transmission shops leave me with a very shady impression.
I finally found one that was modernized and kept track of their rebuilds on a computer so that they could pull up a given make model year, and give you the range from previous cars worked on company wide.
At any rate, they told me it had been as low as $2000 but as high as $5300 depending on the damage.
I obviously opted not to fix it.

Does your truck have a body lift? Sometimes when they aren't done right, the shifter pops out of gear.
The other problem could very well be the bushing.
Transtar Industries offers rebuilt kits for the do it yourselfer.
