Tranny Cooler Install Problem
 

So I've almost got my cooler all done. All I need to do is get the old cooler hoses off of the hard lines to the transmission and they are stuck on there really good. I can't pull them off and it is really hard to get pliers, vice grips, etc. in there because of the hard lines for the power steering.

I'm not too inclined to just cut them and then peel them back because tranny fluid will start pouring out as soon as those old lines are off. Any bright ideas?

It seems that everyone elses tranny hard lines go over the cross member but mine are about 2 or 3 inches back. The clamps in this picture are already moved back. Lame.

Well I guess I answered my own question. I took a razor blade (just the blade, the knife was too big to fit) and very carefully cut a slit in the end of the hose. It was much harder for the return line. Maybe just because my arm was tired but oh well. Once the slit was in there I was able to start peeling the hose and move it. Once the ATF got in there a little bit it lubricated everything and they came right off. Hope this helps someone else.

I saw the sharpie trick from someone. Maybe one of FogRunners posts. Works great.

when i installed mine i removed the lines covered them with my thumb and stuck them onto the cooler and slide the clamps back on, one of the lines is shorter than the other and it required i use a hard insert, 2 extra hose clamps and a little extra hose to extend it slightly to get to the trans cooler. here is a pic of the finished product.

Thats a good idea. I'm glad that someone else's hard lines are up behind the cross member. Maybe it's different on the 2wd's. It's really good to know that the strawberry milkshake isn't on the menu anymore.

Yeah, they were further back and harder to get at on my wife's 4WD than on my 2WD. I also ended up using a razor blade on them, being as careful as I could be not to score the hard line connectors. I didn't want to possibly end up with a leak there. I finally just scored them almost all the way through and twisted the hose until it split the rest of the way.

It takes a lot of shampoo to get tranny fluid out of your hair. lol

yeah im not sure what they look like on a 2wd but i was able to get mine off fairly easily and then extend and reattach them to the trans cooler
