Trade my '91 for a '99 straight up? Opinions wanted.

So I was just downtown having some coffee, and this lady came up to me and complimented me on my rig.

Then she said, "Wanna trade!? I have a '99 4Runner."

So I head out with her and check it out briefly and here is what I have so far for specs:

1999, No factory locker, 99,000km's (not miles), no rust, stock, no leather, the nice styled wheels, tan in color, sunroof, seems well maintained.

She just bought it used from the Toyota dealership 3 months ago (I know, I saw her buy it oddly enough).

The story is that she used to own a '92 4Runner, but this new '99 doesn't appeal to her as much and she seems to be gaga over my truck. (Rightfully so ;) )

She paid $16k for it, and I've put about $16k into my truck, so it kind of evens out financially for me. Can't go wrong with getting mod money back, and then starting with a clean slate.

Any ideas? I'd miss my truck, but life goes on... :bigok:

Edit: It looks identical to this one:

If it's a legitimate offer, I'd do it. :great:

As long as you won't be losing money (or sleep for that matter), then go for it... It will take a "little" more money to get the ground clearance, tires, etc. that you had, but just think, you would be starting with a more comfortable, powerful (3.4 :bigok: ) vehicle.

*side note- I don't know if you did already, but drive it, listen to it, check everything... I know you have a lot invested in your truck and you would break even, but does she know the value of your truck? Almost sounds like a "too good to be true" scenario. I would think she could sell her 3rd gen and buy a 2nd gen and tune it up without all the offroad accessories (unless that's why she wants it) and come out on top.

:) ..my two cents

You can't put a price tag on blood, sweat and tears. I wouldn't trade...but that is just me.

are you sure theres not some under lying problem she's not telling you about.

I don't know...
I have my '95 and got the '99 a few months back. The '95 is more solid, fewer rattles and just looks great.

The '99 has a better engine, better gas mileage, and there are more mod parts for it...

Hey...That '99 would probably fit into your garage until you start messin' with it.

Probably ought to go for it.

you know what you SHOULD do right? swap your 3.0 and 3.4... so the 95 has the best of both worlds :D

as for trading in your beautiful 91 for a 99... up to you, but personally I love the looks of the 2nd gens, especially 90-91. although, you are starting with a more valuable truck again. (book value) could be the wise financial choice.

Dude, you're 2nd gen is the best looking 4Runner i've seen. I wouldn't do it. That thing is sweet. Maybe I'm just partial to 1st and 2nd gens though.........

frankenrunner 04-02-2005 07:50 PM

decisions, decisions, decisions...

tell me, as i'm particularly partial to the operation of the rear window & tail gate on my 2nd. gen., is the 3rd. gen.'s comparable??

Scofco 04-02-2005 08:00 PM

I could be wrong, as I'm not familiar with the 3rd gens, but I think they are a flip up rear hatch with a window that comes down...

Correct me if this isn't the case. I do love the tailgate on my 2nd gen.

dood

doood are you kidding me...... your sh*^ is sick...dont sell that rig....

keep that 2nd gen baby

masterwacker 04-02-2005 08:22 PM

Yeah, the 3rd gen runner has a lift gate with a power window that can be moved down by the switch on the dash and by the ignition key when you turn it in the rear gate. I have a 93 P/U and a 99 runner so I kinda have both styles. As to what I like best it is to close to call since they both have their pros and cons. I will have to agree with the earlier comment on the price of blood sweat and tears though.
