TPS question
Hi guys,
I want to adjust my TPS, but I can't do it myself, cuz I know I'll mess it up!!!!! I've called a local stealership and got $122.70 for the TPS adjustment :bang: That's a bit too much for 20-30 minutes of work. SO, I was wondering if any of you guys would be nice enough to help me with the adjustment or know a mechanic who knows how to do it and doesn't charge too much. I'm in Los Angeles (San Fernando Valley). P.S. I'm buying the beer!!! :drink: Thanx |
Are you talking about the throttle position sensor?
If so, why would you want to adjust it? |
Yeah, TPS - throttle position sensor. It had to be changed, cuz my old one broke (I had a check engine light on with a TPS code). So, I've replaced it with a "new" TPS from my local junk yard, but the machanic who was changing it for me didn't know how to adjust it. So... :help: :help: :help: :help:

I don't think you can really mess it up. Just mark where you started at and then start tinkering with it. You will need an ohm meter. I would suggest to start by measuring the resistance with the throttle closed that way you don't have to use the feeler gauge. Get that within specs and then go for a test drive. I think when I checked mine it read 681 ohms. This isn't too difficult to do. Just pull off the connector and put you ohm meter on the correct corresponding tongs (not sure what you would call them). I think you might need to disconnect your battery too.
I've posted this page a million times but I'll do it once more. http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/TPS/index.shtml I know you can do it. It's not very difficult. :bounce: EDIT: MTL_4runner beat me to it but I'll leave it up there anyways. |
I've seen this link, but I couldn't find the throttle stop screw and the stop lever. I think that in that picture on the site shows the TPS for the 22-re engine!!! :bang: :bang: :bang:
Please :help: :help: :help: :help: |
