Toyota e locker

Well, I just asked the dealer today for the e locker price and h the guy said $750 (plus tax locally) complete set up 3rd plus shipping for any out of state buyers. It's for 4.10 and 4.56 gears so I might go for it as soon as I convince the wife about buying it. My question is, is this a good deal or not? I really want to install one since I'll be going to back to my in-laws in Anniston, Alabama this coming deer season. Just got home from 'Bama last night and I can't wait to go back there again.
Later.

My in-laws actually live in wellington which is not far from anniston. My father in law have a 40 plus acre wooded property and I'd seen some deer walk right trhough there backyard. Tell you what, I like the serenity and simpleness of life there compared to the city. I'm thinking of going there for thanksgiving since deer season starts in Calhoun county on I think sep or october 21. I'll definitely let you know when I'm going back there.

By the way, I called Jay Marks Toyota for a price qoute and the guy told me it's $800 plus shipping. Let me know who are interested and I'll asked the service manager if they can give us a group buy price.

wow... $750 and $800 sounds pretty good to me. That's a complete diff with gears and locker, right? Just a bolt in replacement for the old one, right?

Can either of you boys get quotes for a complete front diff with gears while you're at it?

Hey guys, Marlin Crawler used to sell a used Toyota E-Locker with 4.88's installed for $750. This was a few months ago. I just checked the website and it is over $1100. You might want to call him and ask what the increase in price was for and see if you can get a deal.

go to products and check out axle upgrades:

here is a question i asked on the forum about it:

$750 installed? No way!

TDiddy 08-27-2003 10:07 AM

I remember seeing those prices too, I just didn't think it was with install. That could be the price difference.

I think there's more to it that just swapping out the 3rd member, I think you need to modify the housing as well. Check out phong's write up.

george16 08-27-2003 10:07 AM

$750 plus shipping or tax if local alredy setup. You still have to remove your old one and install the new 3rd like phong did along with the mods on your axle housing.

I am interested. I tried to get one locally and asked 2 dealerships. You woould have thought I had asked them for an engine out of an F-16 - they were clueless. They asked to get back me and each did. However, both started blathering on & on about part after part, how they were not even sure if they were telling me about the right parts, how they were not sure if it would work, how they did not know if they could intall, etc, etc - sorta blew me away.

So, i am interested in a group buy cost, cost to install, if cost inlcudes a RR locker dash switch, etc.

Also, i would like to know if you have a detailed parts list by part number so i could square away the local guys.

As for sweet home AL, UofA in Tuscaloosa is my Alma Mater (Class of 89). Met a bama girl, went in the Army, got out, went to Cumberland in B'ham, went back in & still am in the Army. My inlaws are still in B'ham as are lots of friends so I go there all the time but I do most of my hunting in Dothan, AL.

let me know & thx,
m

Totally unrelated, but what about some TRD decals that go on the back fender well for a BLACK 4Runner. What those cost me?

Who cares what they cost? Each one adds at LEAST 10 hp! :hillbill:

Todd,
Here are the part numbers:

Electric locking 3rd member:
- 4.56 ratio (#41110-3D010)
- 4.30 ratio (#41110-3D080)
- 4.10 ratio (#41110-3D030)

Remember, these are already set-up ready for installation after modifying the rear axle.

P. S.

Here are the numbers as well for the ff:

New locker diff. gasket #42181-60050

Longer diff. studs 111mm (2 required) #90116-08330

Diff. Lock ECU #89533-35070

Diff. Wiring Harness #82127-35100

RR DIFF LOCK switch #84725-35010

These are not included in the price of the 3rd member.

When I said "installed" what i meant is that it comes with 4.88 ratio set up in the diff. That would be a great deal because the lowest you can get from the factory is 4.56 which may be undergeared if you have 33's. So all you have to do is pull the old diff, modify the housing, run the wires, and install the new diff.
