TJM or ARB? (already searched)
I am TRYING too look for a good bumper to put on my '98 4Runner and nobody has good pictures to compare by, does anyone have a link to several different ones? I want one that will fit a Warn XD9000i, has the top bars and maybe the wrap arounds the lights, ALSO i want it to work with my airbags. I know for sure TJM does not work with my air bags but am not sure about the quality of ARB (I've seen both sides of the arguments). arbusa.com only shows a front site but no links to get into it. Please help! :yotarock:

This is an ARB Sahara Bar. "Airbag safe if mounted to a Prado". Holds a Warn M8000 or similar. http://www.4x4rockshop.com/scripts/p...idproduct=9567 Bamchem's 4Runner is featured there.

:woo: There is no question about the quality of either bumper. Pick your poison

If you want hoops you'll either order the TJM T15, ARB Bull Bar, or ARB Sahara Bar. OR, have one custom made.

This pic is a little dark, but I think you will get the idea.

I have a sahara bar painted to match my runner. ARB's are airbag compatable - TJM's aren't. ARB's are one piece - TJM's are three pieces. |
Why is it that the TJM is not airbag compatible? If I am not mistaken, the later model (2nd and 3rd Gen's) 4Runners SRS system works off of an inertia switch (gyroscope)in the SRS control module. I think the manufacturers just say that to cover their @sses. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

1. The ARB has crumple zones built into the mounting brackets so it won't set off the airbags in minor impacts. The TJM has straight brackets that transfer the energy directly to the frame. That could POSSIBLY cause the bags to go off during a low speed impact - but so far on yotatech, nobody's had any problems. 2. In order to be labled "airbag compatable", you have to have on-vehicle testing to get approval. TJM is a relatively small company and probally doesn't want to spend the money just so they can put a sticker on the inside of their bumpers. |
Here is a pic of my 97 with the ARB bumper and Warn Winch 9.5XP.

Hijack!
Mike, isn't that the dirt driveway next to the Northgate mall? You don't actually wheel that thing, do you? See ya on Saturday.... Hijack off! I've got a TJM that I customized a little, ditto what most everybody else said, go with what you think is prettier. There are a ton of rumors/net lore that says one is better than the other, but I've never seen/heard any truth to them. |
Show off... :P Oh! hey whos that behind me in the Pic! =D

Ok thanks for everyone's reply and help. I think I might go for TJM's tj 15 for the price and I am going by Matt's logics about the inertia sensors, simply because I know at GM they have at least 2 impulse sensors instead of the "touch sensors" that they used to have. Thanks again!

I just hope fricken Cheese get a job soon so I can get the "fab urge" out on is truck. Oh yeah, Have you heard about those Sway-A-Way Racerunners. They are so AWSOME! I read it on the internet. MT/R's are the only tire that work off road as well. |

Just get you an 85, you know you want to! :ignore: TJM/ARB...1/2 dozen of one, 6 of the other. It's all a personal preference based on your criteria. :guitar: |
I love hauling ass and jumping my 4 runner wit my SAW's ant tjm-15 isn't that what life is all about up heer in nor cal? Pismo baby! Were all so hard core round here.
