I got an '01 Tacoma TRD, and a few of the suspension parts are in need of replacement. The ride is getting worse, handling is suffering, and it's all-around pretty obvious that my suspension is toward the end of its life.

I'm not looking to lift my truck, but am still considering getting some Coil-Overs for the front. I'm thinking of trying to get away with not replacing the rear leaf springs, and just replacing the shocks.

I've been looking at both the ToyTec Coil-overs the Icon VD Coil-overs, and Bilstein 5125 shocks for the rear. I am comfortable with the price of these items.

What are your suggestions? It's for my daily driver, but I do like to wheel a dozen or so trails on the 4-6/10 scale every summer.

Thanks ThatGuy1295. It seems that the Toytecs will fit the bill just right. I doubt that the Icon coil-overs would really be worth the extra money for me. The ToyTecs will be such an improved over the stock front suspension that I have now, I'm sure I'll be quite impressed.

As far as rear shocks go, I'm looking at the Bilstein 5125s. I see that there are both an 8" and an 8.5" model listed for stock-height Tacomas. Do you know which length I should get?

After years of tinkering with aftermarket suspensions, I am going back to stock. The stock suspension is a great setup for your truck. If someone invented it, a lot of people would be buying it.

Let's say I wanted to bypass my idea of getting Toytecs, and just wanted to replace the rear shocks and front springs and struts. Where would I get these parts?

Definetly toytec's in front. You will love them. The stock springs are non-progressive rate springs. Their nice but very soft, and combined with the factory shocks you will bottom out real hard all the time. And if your ever want a winch bumper that extra 120lbs causes your front end to sag an inch or more. Looks terrible

I haven't actually looked into the rear shocks to much yet, but will be soon.
8 and 8.5 shocks, is that travel length, or does it say? Longer the better I say, no matter what springs. Bilstien's are nice shock for sure. Love mine in the front, much smoother and more controlled ride.

And these are actually adjustable. Theres a snap ring hidden under the bottom of the coil base plate. Its got 3 settings. 0 lift 1.5'' and 2 3/4'' lift. But thats with stock springs. With the toytec coil's their already a 3'' lifted spring. So you don't really need the adjustable shocks. You could just get regular bilstien front struts and it would be the same thing. Less $$ and still a 3'' lift.
