There's a reason why Toyotas are the best cars ever

A guy at my work has an old beatup 1980 Toyota pickup.

I asked him how many miles on it, he said 420,000 !!!!!!! :eeek: :eeek: :eeek:

he told me over the 23 years he's had it, he has had to replace only the fuel pump, alternator, and 2 clutches, thats it! other than that, it still runs perfect

he claims he can still burn rubber too

I, for one, am not surprised in the least by this. I guarantee there a lot more of those stories out there. I think we all know this and is why we chose what we did. :)

I think there are only 3 things that can kill an old Toyota.

1) Big, ugly wreck that bends the frame
2) Driving it several hundred miles without motor oil
3) Breaking a timing chain that in turn breaks a valve.

2 of those 3 only kill the motor, just get a new motor and keep on going.

I love my old Toyota. Only a big wreck would cause me to get rid of it.

I have to add "rust" to your list! My friend has a 2wd '82 with I think either 280k or 320k miles. He still uses the truck, the original engine starts up every time, but the frame is pretty shot :welder:

Add, being an idiot and puting any of the "spray in your intake" carbon remover. Yeah that sucked. If anyone is considering it, just take the plenum off. Take the time, because you'll have to do it if you blow your engine anyways!

yes they are the bet my friend has 280.000 on his 83 4x4. he owned it for 12 years so far. about 10 yaers he owned it he had 12 iches of lift on it and 42 inch swampers TSL's. the last year he lowered it because of getting ticket all the time. hewould drive it like that almost every weekend to his hunting cabin 4 1/2 hours away. for awhlie when he first lifted it it was his daily driver. all he ever broke wheelin it at his cabin was the rear spider gears. he never broke a birfeild joint.

And if the frame gets wrecked, you've got a great engine to drop into a dunebuggy, that would be fun!!
