Which SUV??

We've also got a 2004 Tacoma Double Cab with TRD package - it rocks!!!
I like the Xterra alot, but having a truck just can't be beat.
How about a Lexus GX470 and then switch all the badges to Toyota

thanks
Thanks guys I really needed to here some feedback. I am pretty nervous when parting with substantial monies. I have to say you guys have really peaked my curiosity on the Taco's and Tundras. Its Sat. morning for me right now
and I am about to go take a few for a test drive...
Is the gas mileage on the PUs better or worse than the 4runners?
Too bad Toyota or someone more reliable than Chrysler would make an open concept vehicle like a Jeep. I wonder what percetage of people buy a Jeep just because it has the removable tops etc...
I will keep you posted on the outcome.......

If you want a Nissan, get a Pathfinder instead of a Xterra. The Xterra is a cheap version of the PF. The interior is cheaper - seats, dash, the tailgate doesn't have a separate glass liftgate, plus it has that stupid arch in the roof.
If I were you, I'd go all the way and get another Runner, preferably a 4th gen. imo, its one of the best-looking "real" Suv out there...despite the biased opinions of some of the older-gen owners.

I heard that one of the advantages to the XTerra was the fact that it didn't have the weightier stuff to make it heavy - the lightness made it better for offroading - or something like that...

Hope nobody minds an interloper...I have an Xterra but I browse around here from time to time 'cause I like Toyota's a lot as well.
I just thought I could offer some information for you about Xterras. First off, somebody said that the Xterra is a cheaper version of the Pathfinder. That's not true at all, it's actually totally unrelated to the Pathy. The Xterra is based of the Fronty platform, so it has a truck frame (pathy is unibody), torsion bars up front, and leaf springs out back. The NA V6 sucks gas and goes slow, but it will last forever. Nissan's used this engine for a long time and they don't any issues at all. The Xterra doesn't really have any weak points mechanically, except that the front steering is weak so if you lift your it you will run into troubles there. Luckily there is a $300 aftermarket system available that solves the problem.
Tire wise you can fit a 32x11.5 on a stock Xterra with no problems . You may need to trim a bit of plastic, but it's really minor and it can be done with a dremel or coping saw. It's a 5 minute job per wheel and it isn't noticable. A couple of guys on XOC have actually fit 33x10.5s w/out a lift, but they may just be tolerant of rubbing - my 32s don't rub, but they don't clear by much.
I think I've hit most of the points addressed in this thread. Come check out www.xterraownersclub.com and poke around some. There's lots of pictures and information there. Do a search first because some of the less social types sometimes jump on newbies.
One last thing that may or may not be important to you - the current body style is in its last or second to last year. If you can wait around for the new one it sounds pretty cool - 260 hp, 6-spd manual, coil sprung suspension, rear locker...drool...
Good luck!

LandCruisers??
I don't know much about LandCruisers but the one on the top left looks pretty decent. If it was a Diesel I would buy it today!

I think I remember a thread a little while back ago with people commenting on how low the resale value is on Land Cruisers. If you're not worried about resale maybe that's the way to go?

Simular to comparing Grand Cherokees to Rubicons...(well sort of)
